And having seen Finch in person at games, she definitely is HE.
Wow OILF, you want to try again at that?
You sound so sure of yourself, but you might want to take another shot at it.

There is absolutely no need to have brush interference at the hip or thigh level. Why everyone makes pitching so bizarre and difficult for young pitchers is beyond me. A flap is fine off the thigh (I think BHH talks about it) but you do not need to hit your body. Wow. I really thought the days of that old BS were over. But it lives. All because we can't stand the kid being a bit inaccurate when learning.
And having seen Finch in person at games, she definitely is HE. She gets whip but the HE ain't muscle memory or habit. She does it when warming up and quite deliberately. However, when she throws a rise or screwball, there is no HE, as that would be impossible.

JJ,
Im confused...
If worn around the upper thigh, my Flapper suggestion encourages *exactly* what you are trying to achieve: brush contact w lower forearm/wrist. Unless youre porportioned like cro-magnon man, that is... ;-) Then, I suppose, you could customize your flapper to fit around your calf?
Also the "sticking straight out" comment confuses me too.
Once on the leg, the band can be rotated to orient the flap so that its "sticking out" from the area where you wish to be making brush contact. So in a way, this device can also serve as a trainer for proper posture and push leg/hip positioning.
Lastly, this using this device has nothing to do with "minor belly brush".
Does that make sense?
Makes sense- and I will give anything a try. When I have seen this before, it has been used by instructors who advocate a brush of the belly ala the esteemed Mr. Hillhouse, I think Rita Lynn Gillman also has some demos with this also. Neither of them describe the brush in very strong terms so I have associated it with a lighter version of brushing (think sleeve brushing shirt) than what I want to try to achieve. The brush I see and feel is really is more of a bump and roll. I only use the term brush to avoid the OILF flaming that would occur if I implied that a young girl should hit her arm against her hip and thigh while pitching.

After you use the AccraSpeed for a while I think you will be able to interpret when the pitcher is getting brush interference vs. when they just "blow through" the release zone without contact.....especially if you can coordinate this with video. I am pretty sure you can simulate both yourself 'cause I know you are dedicated to learning. I'd be interested to hear your feedback after some trial sessions.
I have tried items like the Perfect Circle but could not get the feel that told me I was getting contact or not.
