Well, she'll get her picture taken with her hero and hopefully any bad info won't sink in much in just 2 days.

One of my students brought me in a picture of finch, from a camp, with ball over her head pointed at third base. While she is wearing a shirt with her logo on it, ball pointed at catcher.

I've had a student a couple of months ago attend a Finch camp. They got great batting advice from Bustos. that was the best thing there. Anyhow, I've seen the video, from her dad, where Jenny told my student to push and pull up in an HE finish. I told my student's Dad to her pitch like Jenny pitches not like she teaches. Then showed him videos of her pitching.

Here what irks me the most. Jenny isn't dumb. She's had to have seen her own videos, sport science, Mike White analysis, etc. She has to know that she doesn't pitch that way. WHY DOES SHE STILL INSIST ON TEACHING THAT WAY. Come-on really !!! ok, rant over.

Just because a pitcher is among the "elite" doesn't necessarily mean they have the ability to fully explain what they do. Further, just because someone has never been a fastpitch pitcher doesn't necessarily mean they can't explain (or show with clips, etc.) what "elite" pitchers do. For me, the ideal is when you run across an "elite" pitcher (current or former) who does a great job of explaining while showing how to do it.

Because in order to teach how she actually pitches it would mean that she and padre would have to admit that they are....WRONG!

I challenge you to name one DD who doesn't want to try to please their crazy fastpitch parent(s).

My two cents:

1) pitching is so specialized that I don't think I would ever take my DD to another group pitching camp unless it was to showcase her pitching talent. Said another way, it's highly likely that the instructors will not be teaching proper pitching techniques and your DD will be worse off from the experience. For example, 8YO DD went to a summer softball camp and in a few short days, they taught her to hit her thigh with her glove. She has been doing this ever since. Not the worst thing in the world but I don't think that most 21YO college pitchers know much about arm whip and glove mechanics and just parrot what their old school instructors have taught them over the years. Let the buyer beware when it comes to clinics of any kind.

2) Can we all agree that if we post in the Pitching thread that we know the difference between "Jennie" Finch and "Jenny" Finch. Pretty please.....

Maybe Jennie Finch is the elite pitcher with beautiful whip mechanics and Jenny Finch is her evil twin that insists on reinforcing HE instruction?

The most fun thing to do is to question HE on a facebook thread where a parent is paying for Doug and the Good Doc's pitching expertise. Then they know their daughter will be just like Jennie and will never be injured bc the dr studied the proper pitching mechanics for 25 years... But they stop and pray as soon as someone gets hurt, so they're better than me. (I had flashbacks as I was typing that, it happened after the Mizzou pitcher got hit)
