Before explaining the case, let me set the background.

I live in a country where softball is not so popular. There are a few teams in my area but we don't have any models to learn from. Needless to say we don't have any coaches either. So, most of my pitching skills came from experimenting what I found online. I've learned a lot from DFP as it's my main source of information. Special thanks to BM and JS. You guys are awesome for sharing so much knowledge.

Having said that, I've been pitching for quite a while but my speed seems to be stuck.
I tried to change my motion and make adjustments based on what I read but no matter what I do the speed remains the same.

My top speed was clocked at 58, but 90% of the time it's between 51-54 (most of the guys around have the same speed). I'm 6'1, so I think height is not a big issue. I'm wondering if bad mechanics are sucking the speed out or if timing is not adjusted. Maybe the kinetic chain is all messed... i don't know :(

Judging by the videos, I can see the hips open at 12, the palm up at 9 (more up than facing down) and I can even see the whipping action through 9-6.

So, what am I missing?

Please critique. Any comments will be very appreciated
ps: replanting is one of the issues I have to correct, but thi shouldn't affect the speed, (or should it?)

Awesome thread and I think it would be fun to have others post their stuff for review. I recently had a rare opportunity to throw to a willing parent and get gunned. I only got a few tries, but 52 was the best (almost no warm up.)

Although your whip looks decent, I think you nailed the timing issue. I see your throwing arm moving forward too early in the drive. I'd like to see the body moving forward as the arm is swinging back. I think timing the arm better will also improve the overall drive as well as the plant/whip timing.

I'll be in the gym tomorrow will try to get a video of myself to post. I'd love to get feedback as well!

I'd also add the glove to the drive and whip. Right now I see more of a strong step with little contribution from the arms. Use both arms to drive and use that glove side to pull down into whip. You'll like the results immediately. Just for fun, I'll promise an average increase of 3 MPH!

Sorry--one more thing. Think pull into release, not throw. Looks like you might be trying to force IR rather than allowing whip/IR to happen naturally. I suspect this may be my issue as well and am looking forward to shooting/posting some video of myself.

Ken,

Many thanks for the input. Those are very good observations.

Now that you have pointed, it's easy to see that I'm rushing with the arm
As for the forced IR, I might be focusing too much on that.

I'll try to make the changes you suggested and I'll let you know the results (hopefuly with those 3 mph increase :D )

It'll be great to check you video too. Let's hope the rest of the guys/gals will join us!

I believe it's fair to say the thread should be "Need A LOT of help with my bad mechanincs"... :D

It's amazing how I think I'm doing everything right until I watch my own video and discover I'm far from what I consider adequate...
I see lots of hard work ahead! LOL

I don't get many opportunities to throw outside of demoing to my kids and haven't looked at video of myself in a long time. It will be good to do a little video eval to ensure my demoing is up to speed!
