My 9yo daughters pitching coach sets it out about 5ft in front of her and makes her stride out and land in the middle of it, making her bring her back leg up on to the ball as well.

Yes, core stability use. I like the 1/2 ones instead of the full balls and you can use it right side up for different exercises and turn it upside down for others. Little pricey though for the home gym...

My daughter caught for a girl at an OU camp and they were using the ball to teach drive off the mound and front side resistance.

Dd worked with DJ Mathis, who is a Lombardi product. She used the bosu ball and worked her up to a box that was about 20 inches or so tall. It was used fir front side resistance and to get a stronger faster follow with the back knee. For the most part DJ used as a drill not for full pitches. Start in a k with front foot/ plant foot on box/ball. And finish as fast and strong as possible with back knee. End up with butt clinched and legs in a figure four balancing on top of the ball/box.

Outside of pitching they are great for core, balance, and strengthening all the little stabilizer muscles.
