Stick, she is trying to use internal rotation, she fights it sometimes at the end when she tries to elbow elbow, just tell her she doesn't have to do that and let her arm follow through naturally. She may have developed that hitch stopping her elbow whenever she tries to throw low.

She has a lot of inconsistencies in her release and follow through. I bet you get all kinds of crazy spins from her! But more than likely that is what is causing her control issues.

Yes, please get her to an instructor as soon as you can!

Edit---just realized there was a page 2! Ha ha! Glad you got to her a good instructor!;)

jojo thanks for chiming in. Yes she gives me all kinds of different spin. We are going to spend a lot of time on the IR in the classroom drills. She really needs to develop some consistency. I'm happy where she is naturally and after such a short amount of time, but we have miles to go.

Like Amy I watched until the 1m25s mark. She started off ok. When she threw the high ball she started trying to aim her pitches. Aiming pitches started getting her to lean. When you practice reinforce finishing tall. Even if she isn't the most accurate in the beginning tell her your ok with that. Accuracy and speed will come with confidence, practice, and good mechanics. The mechanics are the tool she needs to rely on.

Is that a dad's voice I hear in the background telling her the pitch is too high? Don't do that. Give her a large zone and remember you HAVE to throw high when you are learning or it is a long road of frustration..

Hey Screw, yes indeed this was the part of our routine where DD asks me if they are balls or strikes as we are doing "batters". I do give her a large zone, but do try and keep it realistic.

thanks

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your interest. DD has joined a tournament team and will be practicing 3 times a week all Fall and winter. She will most likely not be a pitcher on this team, but we will be working on the side towards improvement.

OK I am a bit upset to say that I think DD has been somewhat ruined by the instruction she received. Hellow Elbow, don't let arm cross to glove side, etc. She has been throwin most pitches with a screwball type delivery due to this obsession of not letting her natural IR take place. I am going to start updating this thread again. She has progressed in terms of developing control, starting to add some pitches, etc. But she needs to get back to her "natural" delivery as seen earlier in this thread if she is going to have any kind of snap on the fastball. I do not have video of her recent struggles, but we are going back to basics by studying the IR in the classroom thread. Priority one is getting back to basics and getting the proper motion at release. These are quick clips and I will get more real pitching clips later. Appreciate feedback I can take to the next workout.

Release and relax. The right shoulder should be lower than the left. Tell her that you relax the shoulder and arm, like you are getting an immunization. Remember how much shots hurt if you tense up your arm? I want both of these young athletes to be loosie goosie.

All of her body should line up directly over the power line, facing the wall, not you. Only her head should face you. Tell her that it is the same as batting. (Even the shoulders.)Screen Shot 2013-02-13 at 7.56.29 AM.jpg
