Since we are all fastpitch junkies there is no sense in asking if any one watched game 2 of the NPF championship yesterday, right? During the game there was a commercial for a new Jennie Finch dvd, "Pitcher Perfect". I tried to find the commercial online and can't. But there is a dvd on her site that is comeing soon.
Anyway. If I understand the commercial right it brags about the mechanics being backed up by medical proof that they are the "safest way to learn pitching".
Now my point. During th commercial I noticed Jennie pitch and finish with her hand curled up just above her throwing shoulder. Surely, I didn't see that. Then the next shot is even closer of her finishing with, no way, her elbow pointing toward the catcher. I couldn't believe my eyes. Had to rewind and watch it a few times. Surely Jennie wasn't showing the catcher her elbow on a dvd that is backed up by medical proof as the safest way to pitch.
Somebody tell me I was seeing things. Or maybe in the dvd they are also showing how not too do it. I am wrong, aren't I?

No. That is what she teaches. It isn't necessarily how she always pitches. I saw it, too.

So, shoot. Now, I have to hear, "Well, that is what is on the Finch DVD."

I agree it is not what she does. It has been said on here many times that great athletes don't always do what they teach. My big thing is that the dvd brags about how it is backed by medical proof. I thought I read on here(and I'm not trying to throw stones) somewhere that doing this will lead to elbow problems?

The very last line in the statement says the arm should be long, but not forced straight. I would think they are referring to not locking the elbow. Sounds like they are not committing to any particular style of pitching. You could easily build a case for IR and having a long arm that swings close to the head. I would love to see Finch explain how she pitches different than she teaches. She must be aware of it by now.

I would be willing to bet she knows about it. But in her defense I tell my kids not to do things that I have either done or still do. I don't think watching rated r movies are good for my dd, but I do it.
I believe it is the general consensus on this forum that IR is the way to go. But what I wanna know is what is more detrimental to my dd's health. And I am sure there are varying opinions on that as well.
You can find "medical proof" to back up just about anything. Also, everyone is built differently and have different levels of susceptibility.

I follow Finch on twitter, she just tweet'd:

"It's FINALLY here!!! "Pitcher Perfect" our Instructional DVD w/ Dr. Werner's Scientific Studies Included! Get it NOW www.JennieFinch.com"

The link to the DVD is here.

Details
Pitcher Perfect offers what no other DVD has before: a scientific and medically-based approach to windmill pitching mechanics. Jennie Finch, Olympic gold medalist and professional player, started pitching at age 8. Jennie and Doug Finch (Jennie’s father and pitching coach) share their fundamentals of pitching, all based on the biomechanical studies of Sherry Werner, Ph.D. (study results included). According to Dr. Werner, who has the largest biomechanics database of windmill pitchers in the world, less than 1% of pitchers are pitching safely today. This unique approach of adding science to the art of pitching makes this DVD a must have for every windmill pitcher.

Running Time: 45 minutes + Biomechanical Studies
