We are a 14u team.
Regardless of temp. Our first tournament is in 4 weeks. There is no gaurntee that it will be 60 and sunny that weekend. In Maryland it is running in the 40's-50's right now. If there is a possibility they are going to play in it, they might as well practice in it. We will...
Our first outdoor practice of the season is Saturday regardless of temperature. We've been indoors since Mid-October. I don't know who has cabin fever worse, me or the team.
Any suggestions for making the transition smooth and enjoyable for everyone.
Just held our Quarter Auction last night. Just in donated items, food sales and a 50/50 the team walked away with $1300 profit and some very very sleepy 13 year olds. All in all a good night.
12-13" is average, I would find what is most comfortable for her in that range and stick with that. But also grab a 12" ball at the store and throw it to her in the store a few times and make sure she likes the feel of the glove overall.
From personal experience, the girls on my team who are the most athletic are the girls who play two sports. I have 2- two sport athletes on my team, both girls play soccer. They are very agile and quick to move to the ball.
I must have told her 10 times this was not the time nor the place for this convo, she kept going on and on and on then started yelling at me. That's what finally got me to my breaking point.
We are doing both and ipad ap and paper and pencil this year. We want to see what we like best and then next season stick to one or the other. The thing I like about the iPad app is that it automatically calculates your stats which will save me a crap ton of time.
A lot of girls arond here feel like the 2013 has more of an end load. Many of them are trying to eat up any 2012's they can find with the new USSSA stamp on it because they dont want to have to move to the 2013.
Played indoor scrimmages at a local JUCO this weekend. In between games one of the parents approached me about playing time and why her DD's (yes she has 2 kids on the team), sat the beginning of the first game (each girl played 3 of the 6 innings), and why one was supposed to sit to start the...
I use the microwave break in method for all of our gloves. It even worked for correcting a glove that was broken in incorrectly.
You oil the glove up really well (expecially the laces), petroleum jelly works well too, you can also use shaving cream. Place the glove in a plastic bag (grocery...
Easton makes a -10 aluminum called the Typhoon. (This years model is teal, last years was white with orange writing). Not sure if it will feel similar to the 2013 DM but my DD uses this as her cage bat for $50 wasn't a bad purchase.
A tarp or slip-n-slide work great when the weather is warm.
Another option is to have two coaches each hold the end of a broom handle. The girl runs, grabs the handle and slides underneath. The coaches move with the girl through the slide.
This gets them in the habit of getting down then...
right now our cage is down for the winter, but we have a batting cage in the back yard that I will break up in 2 to 3 stations for DD and which ever other girls come over to hit. Its also equiped with a pitching tunnel. DD has a strike zone taped out on her bedroom door at the end of the hall...
My DD was one of those girls at 10u (she didn't start playing SB until she was 8, played BB for 3 years prior) that threw hard but wild. She pitched maybe 5 games in her 2 years in 10u because the coaches didn't want a fast "wild" pitcher on the mound. 4 of those 5 games came at the end of the...
