As a coach for both club ball and HS ball, I'm not familiar with these "pissing matches" between club ball coaches and HS coaches. During HS season, HS has top priority, and after that club ball has top priority. Seems to work just fine.

As for "pissing matches" between HS coaches and parents ... again, I don't see a lot of that. Players are encouraged to communicate directly with the coaches. On occasion there is a parent that feels that there is an issue ... in which case, when a coach behaves in a manner of "doing the right thing", they generally explain the logic they are using, and if that isn't sufficient then they simply schedule a meeting between the parent, AD and them-self ... and the issue is promptly resolved.

When CB says he simply does the right thing ... I know exactly what he means. Coaching is relatively simple when the attitude is ... "do the right thing". Coaching becomes more difficult, and less fun, when you behave politically and have to face pressures from not doing the right thing. Each night, a coach can sleep well when they coach the team with the attitude of simply "do the right thing".

IMO, the smart school coaches stay out of the way of pitching as much as they can. Hopefully the pitchers have their own instructors.

Good coaches get with their pitcher's pitching coaches to get on the same page and to help reinforce what is being taught.

I am probably going to repeat what has already been said.

The TB coaches have a relationship with the players and their families. I would be out talking to the TB coaches buying them beers and hotdogs.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is why the girls play the game. Our HS athletic program brought in a sports consultant 2 years back and he had a huge impact on the way I coach and think about my teams.

So basically this guy spends most of his time working with High Schools and Colleges and he surveys and spends time with the students (first thing he does is walk the halls during a school day). Some of the things that stuck out for me (I wrote them down right after the presentation). When asked why kids play sports the top 3 answers (He's surveyed tens of thousands of kids) were 1) To have fun 2) for the social environment/to meet friends 3) Competition/to win. He also said that #3 is close to becoming #4 and "to be active/involved/fit" or something along those line was moving up. Take a moment to think about that, to win isn't #1 and could soon be #4! Also consider that these responses are boys and girls combined. I think we will all agree boys and girls are very different.

My point is you can be as skilled as a coach and as a team as the best team you may play but if the girls aren't having fun, their #1 goal for being there is not being met, and you'll probably struggle. Make sure to include the girls in whatever plan you put together. Ask them why they play in HS, what's different between their HS team and other teams, what are their goals individually and as a team, etc. You're goals for this team are just that, they are your goals. Find a way to make them your teams goals an include what they need/want as well and you will have a much better start to accomplishing anything you set out to accomplish.

Excellent point. Unfortunately too many HS coaches do all they can to avoid interaction with the parents, and when they do they include their overseer.

I completely agree, but I'm ROFLMAO! Ain't gonna happen here. Thus, a few pitchers are put at a great disadvantage and always feeling like oil in water. It's always troublesome to hear, "They just don't understand my pitches." No, I think it's more they just don't care to understand your pitches. This is particularly evident and troublesome when the dad of one of the HS pitchers is the HS pitching coach. Pitchers who go to other pitching coaches are in real trouble in these situations.

Post a video, grab some popcorn and an adult beverage and watch the show. :)
