Welcome to the forum! Please congratulate your DD on my behalf for making the travel team. It is a great accomplishment and one she should be proud of.

The 12U age group is a great place to be. Have fun and enjoy it and tell her to work hard at getting better.

Thanks! She is very excited to take this next step on her journey as a player. It's going to be an exciting year. Those who said that girls make huge strides between the first and second year of 12U were absolutely right, I think.

I wasn't an athlete either. I was reading in a corner and hoping no one would talk to me. Lol

So completely yes! My preferred order of activities: 1. Read in a corner, 2. Hunter-jumper horseback riding, 3. Acting (not singing or dancing). If somebody had told me at age 14 that I would have a multi-sport daughter, I would have busted a gut laughing!

I used to hate sports, all of them. I thought baseball was more boring than most, so much standing around. lol Signing my youngest up for softball was my idea but I can't remember what possessed me to do it. I was resentful of every little thing I had to buy. What? Now we need a face mask for the helmet!? She's 6 and playing coach pitch for pete's sake! Hahaha. Last night we went to a baseball/softball store to get fitted for uniforms for our very expensive travel team and were looking at $300 bats. I'm not sure what has happened to me but there is nowhere I'd rather be than at the softball (or baseball - my older daughter plays rec baseball) field. People who knew me before 2012 when all this started are amused and baffled by my transformation.

Not an athlete either.
I was especially bad at baseball and softball.
NEVER occurred to me to sign kids up for LL.
Missed the boat on DS. He probably would'be been a good player, but is a collegiate rower instead.
DD 1 player from 7th through 9th grade. Probably the most talented of the bunch, but doesn't like organized sports. Loved stealing bases. DD 1's idea of fun is to go on a long run by herself. Quite fast, but not interested in track team.
DD 2 likes the game but won't play cause no ability at all. On the track team.

DD 3 is the only one of 4 kids who plays. I cannot believe that someone as clumsy and uncoordinated as myself could have a DD like that. Star player, at least a big fish in a small pond.

The lesson? The world's worst athlete can still be a good softball parent, as long as no one expects help coaching.

Let's hear it for klutzes with talented DDs.

Hear, hear!!! DD is a catcher and no way, no how would I ever attempt to pitch to her so she can practice. I can't even throw the ball to her, so I'm useless in that regard. But, I can drive the hell out of the car to get her to practice, games, or tryouts (four last weekend!).
