I talked to my DD during a game in HS only once.

She was getting hammered and I couldn't figure out what was going on. About the 3rd inning, I noticed that she took longer to grip her dropball than it did to grip her fastball. I talked to her about it between innings as the coach pretended to not notice She fixed it the next inning.

As far as yelling signs from the 3B box, just because you are a national championship coach does not mean you can't do bush league things but hey I guess results speak louder than anything else, if that's the way you want to roll.

Mike Larabee is well known for tipping his batters when he knows what pitch is coming.

Back on the dirt...
You are definitely entitled to your opinion. Speaking of cheap... what value is in your post?

You should be reminded of a couple of rules on this forum, OILF:

* Chasing / harassing / flaming other users, regardless of who instigated it.
* Harassing other users by having a continuous negative or bitter attitude towards them.

Obviously... you didn't watch the game. This pitcher is working on the pitch, not the wind-up. Keeping yourself from raising the glove above your head does not take more than 20 minutes to correct. I know. I work with real world pitchers that go on to play at the next level. Her motion on all other pitches is nearly identical to one another... she obviously needs it pointed out to her. Commentators saying that there is an issue... or other team's coaches knowing her tell... does nothing for the athlete/team... and neither does your post. That last line is not negativity... it's a fact... and a direct comment on the words you responded with.

Also... this post was about much more than Texas and their pitchers... it was about the details... and about making/helping parents of those with successful pitchers look a little closer at their DD's motions to see if she/they have tells.

Lastly... it's interesting/fun for some to do this kind of activity... and there is nothing wrong with that. I know my DD sat and looked at those video clips for a solid 20 minutes before she picked it up. From there... she went on to ask if she had any tells. Makes people think about the game, OILF... not a bad thing.

What say you?

lol you should send her multiple PM's and ask her why she keeps dogging on you and to please leave you out of her posts and stop posting on her comments. Also, you should contact a moderator and have them contact her about commenting on your posts.

I mean, that's what she did to me... Seems only fair.

Back on topic, this is a valuable post and has given me insite on reading the TELL and what to do with the information.

Thank you Java! I hope to one day get my DD to a lesson with you.

This is silly thinking the coaches and pitcher don't know this...the announcers talked about the issue during the game and the fact that the coaches and the pitcher are working on it. They don't need to be saved by DFP. And posting and talking is cheap, while actually doing something is hard.

OILF, you know I've been a supporter of some of your "positions". I like the way you let your kids own the game and such, but it truly does disrupt the flow of a darn good DFP thread when you chime in with meaningless jabs. You come across as that kid who always felt left out and who will disrupt the group just to get the attention you believe you deserve. IMO, this was one of the greatest pitching threads in months. Let it be... But, please do chime in as Devil's advocate from time to time. It does make it lively once in a while. keep it sparingly... Thanks.

I have to admit the only thing I could come up with is that she was nodding her head during her backswing on the change but it was obvious she was taking her hands above her head once it was pointed out. Good stuff Java!!!

since this thread, "tells" have been on my brain.

This past weekend, I attended my 1st-ever D1 softball game. (America East Conference)
1) I was blown-away at the velocity of the pitching
2) I was surprised to not see a single rise-baller in the game (5 total pitchers between the 2 teams)
3) Except for one of the pitchers, I didn't see impressive movement.
4) one of the pitcher's had a change that was a thing of beauty. I could barely contain myself from standing and applauding with hoots and hollers when she threw it (not nearly enough IMO!)
5) I was able to pick a "tell" on one of the most effective pitchers I saw

She did a slide-step or centering-step with her drive foot.
She was right-handed, and had great east-west control.
If her foot stopped left of center (from catcher's perspective) the pitch would be inside
dead-center, the pitch would be low or high down the middle (didn't throw this one very often)
right of center, and the pitch would be to the outside.
This was very consistent. We started whispering the locations to eachother with each delivery.

to me, this seemed like an obvious "tell",
but I don't think the opposing coaches/batters ever keyed on it.
Certainly enough time for a batter to watch where the foot pauses and still track the pitch.

Biggest lesson DD learned from the game: you can give up a dinger on the 2nd pitch of the game, and 3 total runs in the top of the 1st inning, and still win!
