My DD is in the 5%. Can't hit a lick right now but has a cannon for an arm.
Lucky us.
We are converting her to a lefty slapper this off season.

I see no correlation in hitting and throwing! High level throwing you create resistance by torso moving backwards as hips go forward....technically this is not ideal for hitting. Although there are some similarities.

Look again. Think about overlap and where the resistance occurs.

Overlap and X factor are over blown. The key to hitting with power is how one uses the core muscles as a in pulsing and relaxing pattern.

The relax phase gets confused with overlap or intentionally creating x factor stretch.

If you understand the advantage of pulsing the core into contact (or foot strike / hand strike / etc) you learn to relax prior. To create first movement you pulse which leads into the relax prior to the contact pulse. It is the rate of engagement and relaxation that is a learned skill.

Don't get the wool pulled over your eyes by some that will discredit core action emphasis as a PCR method or something that prevents adjustment. It was good enough for Bruce Lee and many of the top MMA fighters as the key to power and speed. It is indeed the universal athletic movement blueprint.

Not saying this is your DD, but some girls have cannons and there arm hurts after practices. I am talking about all the correct throwing mechanics. Not just weight shift, but arm height and follow through's so they have no arm pain after days of practice.

OK ...what are you referring to as overlap? I should start there. Terminology differs.

In a simple description, top (hands) still going back as the bottom (hips) is starting forward.

I'm not saying that throwing and hitting are identical from top to bottom, but there are some commonalities in the sequence of movements, and getting a young player to feel the separation and stretch from "overlap" can help with both hitting and throwing patterns.
