Perhaps a clarification of what the hip is, ie where it terminates at acetabulum Also what is the pelvis.. Where does it begin in regards to the hip. I believe there is a lot of confusion as many will incorrectly view the pelvis( from the pants pocket to the top of the pant line) area as the hip when viewing these discussions thereby putting the focus of separation between the pelvis and the torso instead of between the hip and the pelvis in so bypassing an important link.

There been great debates on what actually goes on in the hip/pelvis. Jb use to post here a lot and and all the scientific terms and which and what muscles/bones do in the swing. Where is the energy really coming from, yada yada. Mind u, he is an expert and studies the anatonmy of the body. When doubt swing a bat yourself and use the Hanson rule. This is a good thread and dont want to get off the track. Search feature is your friend. Look up jbooth and see his prior posts and you will find the numerous threads. regarding the swing, corner, power, high level yada yada. Also check out rhc, hyp,Howe, crankermo ect ect.

As you can see, there are no "single" dedicated IR muscles.

I would like to say something about the rear hip in English. coach talk, not science, even though I do like the science part.

I have had an interest in the "SAT" part of the swing.
Some hitters get more "SAT" than others, with my youngsters hardly at all.

I have a home run hitter, with horrible hands, and no tilt, no bat angle whatsoever, cannot hit a ball below her belly button, but if the ball is letter high, it goes over the fence.

I have only worked with her once, and only recorded her mainly.
BUT she gets sat, and her hips go first.

So, I took an interest in the "SAT" position.

If I COIL into my rear hip, with straight legs, IT FEELS NOTHING LIKE IT DOES WHEN YOU BEND BOTH KNEES WITH BALANCED WEIGHT.

The FEMUR (a little science) , when "SAT", is in different angle into the pelvis,..... than when you stand tall, ....in coil.

Does anybody understand what I am saying.

Try it.

I will go out to my garage and record, I have a day off, sorta.

gaintheart:
if you are turning over the rear leg while coiling forward, your COM lowers automatically and it gives the appearance of trying to sit into a chair that is slightly out in front and a little behind.

Someone apparently flunked Show and Tell

I will let others do the instructing. I would like to set things straight so there can be no question.

My agenda here is to tell you WHY. If the formulation of a torsion bar in the elite hitter is not compelling enough in contrasting what the rest of us do as mortals, then you have denied yourself the opportunity in understanding and making a difference.

You have a framework from which you have projected to your students as "right". You can be the only judge in the veracity of the formulation presented. What I have shown are contrasting mechanisms in explaining the difference. If what I have to say makes any sense, then pay close attention. Only YOU can adapt the necessary changes in directing a personal framework specifically to your student in becoming that better instructor.

Spoon fed material is only as good as the consumer's ability and desire to process it. I takes work to LEARN, as I have done.

I do find your take interesting and stimulating; however, I learned long ago that there are no shortcuts. If you don't want to show how you train a hitter, then show us a hitter you have trained to confirm that your understanding leads to the production of a swing comparable to the elite MLB swing we're looking for. If you haven't noticed, there aren't m/any of those in the women's FP game. Anyone can point to Pujols, Cabrera, Bonds, Manny etc., explain what they think they are doing, and then simply say "Copy that", but that's not teaching, is it? Judging by results, regardless of the level of one's comprehension of biomechanics, physics, swing theories, etc., the most important and elusive thing is how to teach female SB players to achieve the HLBB because what's being taught now doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
