The head coach pulled my student, due to her attitude, last Sat. He finished the inning with 8. Sometimes, it has to be done. (12U rec)

So why is going from the outfield to the infield a reward for your team? Every position on the field is a reward and should be on every team! No hustle or effort is moved to bench, not outfield! Also from past experience as a coach/father over the past 6 years at 10u girls should play several positions and should always make sure they are having fun while learning how to play the game the right way. I have seen too many parents being too hard on their kids at a young age and it never changed as they got older and it took a tole on the kids. If you must lean towards always encouraging them.

You know, I think you're right. In thinking about it the way you worded it here, I think I was just so shocked that she gave HC attitude when being asked to do basic things and took it as utterly disrespectful to an adult (not even thinking about the SB aspect of it). See, it wasn't the loafing that upset me. It was the lack of following instructions and the attitude that accompanied it.
It's tough. We all want our kids to be the model example and we take it too seriously in that we feel it reflects poorly on our parenting ability when they aren't. Kids have their moments. Something else might be on her mind. Try to keep an eye on the big picture of what her actual character is. A little grace once in a while on a bad day goes a long way in building a kid's confidence which is so key for our little ladies. If you think attitude is bad at 10 just wait til 13. LOL

Yeah, I'm not sure that I think framing moving to outfield as a punishment is a great tactic. There's not much going on there in 10U, but just wait until 12U! I know my DD's attitude about playing outfield sure changed!

Knowing that my DD usually reacts differently to me, on a few occasions (including last Thursday), I've asked another coach on the team to hand down discipline or have a specific conversation with her about an issue. I've also done the same at the request of other coaches for their DDs. Taking the daddy-DD component out of it keeps the focus on it being a softball issue.

Because there have been a total of 2 balls in the outfield the whole season due to our pitching. We have 3 of the top 5 pitchers in the league on our team. K's and grounders is all they ever see.

So at 10U you never make bad throws that require OF to backup and make a play? If so you need to move to travel.

tmolina makes a good point. I don't want players thinking OF is punishment.

On the other hand, 10U rec outfield is less important and less fun at this level. We can lie and tell them otherwise, but they know it. I don't want to say OF is punishment, but IF is a reward.

We only have 1 girl on the team that PREFERS to be out there and that's only because she is terrified of getting hit in the infield.
