Suppose the 3B coach decides to talk to her batter.

Can the coach have the pitcher come over to the dugout and talk?

When either team calls time for a conference the opposing team can also have a conference without being charged as long as they are ready to play when the umpire indicates so.

Yes. In ASA, if a time is granted to the offense, then there is no prohibition against the defense taking advantage of it as well.

The offense has a conference. If a coach goes and talks to the pitcher, does that count as the "first time out to the mound"?

Answered in post #2. As long as the defensive team is ready to play when the offensive conference is over, it is not a charged conference.
