Tatonka, man with your situation and with two girls......I could seriously write for days! If I start to not make sense, it’s completely self inflicted

In your position, for both of your girls, I’d contact Drakemir and probably stick with Vinci. You’re in a situation where you could seriously spend a bunch of money, I know you commented that good quality gloves are small potatoes in the big picture compared to all the other expenses we deal with in our sport, and by that comment you’re a man after my own heart! BUT, this could get expensive!

I love Rawlings, obviously you already know that! DD who pitches and is pretty strong at middle infield could really benefit from a Don Morton Horween Rawlings Pro1000-HC exclusive from Ballgloves.com. I sold one to our 2B on Anna’s TB team, she loves it! It’s a Japanese tanned Heart of the Hide, the newest release from Don Morton’s is Horween leather, oh yeah!!

Do both daughters play on the same TB team? Could they share the same OF glove? As Jdaddy said, the BV1929 makes a really good 3B and utility glove, and in the big picture will also make a pretty good MI glove, but the RV1961 definitely makes a much better OF glove! We have two RV1961’s on Anna’s TB team that I got from Casedawg that those girls love!

Ok, thinking out loud (and spending your money :p).........

If they play together and could share, get a RV1961 from Drakemir for both the girls to use in the OF.
Get DD who pitches and plays MI a Rawlings Pro1000-HC from Don Morton’s.
Get DD who catches and plays 3B a custom Vinci BV-1929 from Drakemir with an H-web or a Double bar web like on the MEO24 (Rawlings RV23).

You never said what kind of fielders glove DD who catches and plays 3B uses? You could get her a standard BV1929 (and immediately have it re-laced) or order her a custom 1929 with a better web for 3B, I remember Casedawg telling me a long time ago about the hybrid BV1929’s he had made for some girls on his team, and by hybrid, pretty sure he just had them made with H-webs. And actually DD who pitches and plays MI could use a 1929 with an I-web if Vinci will put one on a 12.5” glove? An I-web would make that glove a little more shallower and overall a better glove for MI.

I know you’re not wanting to buy 3 (or 4) gloves......but if that’s something you’re considering I’m sure Drakemir would really work with you. That Pro1000 is pretty expensive glove, but an incredibly awesome glove also!

This is a lot to absorb, I think I’ll let you think about this before I write anything else, and who knows, this may be way outside of anything you were originally thinking? But with the success your DD’s have had with Vinci, why not stick with what works? Heck, take that old ugly basket web off the 1929 and flush it, buy a new H-web from Vinci or USA sports direct, send it to Jeffrey Rous and have it re-laced and have the thumb & pinky inserts replaced, better than new, one glove down!

Im seeing quite a few high end gloves 33% off on Ebay at this moment with free shipping from "reputable dealers", most of them HOH. I feel like such an enabler right now.

Just like a new $350 bat is not going to make your DD a better hitter, a $300 glove is not going to automatically make her a better fielder....

Exactly. The only thing that will do that Is practice and experience and more practice.

I think the high end market In both bats and gloves Is mostly about durability and confidence. On the bat side you will obviously see some performance increase because of the technology put Into the barrels. But the players still have to have a good swing and be able to put the bat on the ball. When I moved the DD from aluminum to composite It gave her confidence. She felt she now had her "Excalibur", It made her feel a little more dangerous In the batters box, even If It was all In the mind. In the process of switching her to her first high end glove, or at least I would consider high end. Im hoping to see that same spark light up In her eyes everytime she slips It on her hand like I do everytime she picks up her bat. Im sure she will want to put In extra practice time because of It. One thing I know Is I wont have to buy another infield glove for a few years. Buying softball equipment Is one of the few times Im glad I only have one child.......for now. lol

JAD, you’re absolutely right, couldn’t agree more! But $300 gloves are so cool, and my DD can’t help her dad’s a glove junkie. Also being the king of finding the deal, I’ve owned quite a few $300 gloves, just never paid $300 for them:cool:

Haha...figured that "small potatoes" comment might get misconstrued by some. `Agree completely with you about the Indian vs the Arrow thing. My hope is a better quality glove will last longer and perform better over it's expected lifespan than a lesser glove (especially when taken care of properly which is expected). And, with the help of this great DFP community I've never paid close to $350 for a $350 bat or glove! But I must confess, seeing some of the custom glove porn pictured here I do drool a little. ;-)

Yes, so far the Vinci gloves have been great for us. At 3rd and in the OF my Catcher DD has been using a Rawlings Player Preferred 12.5" glove and it' done well for her but as the speed of the game has picked up (combined with the abuse her hand takes while catching) we're looking at a potential upgrade. She has used her sister's 1929 a few times just playing catch, etc. and has liked it. So the question for her is really is there a better glove out there for less than what I'd pay for another Vinci BV-1929L with the upgrades you have mentioned (H or I web, thumb & pinky inserts and and better laces)?? ps. I have no idea how much those extras would cost?

For my Pitcher DD...we liked the basket web on her 1929 for the extra coverage it provides while gripping the ball pre-delivery. No problem yet with the laces/inserrts for her but then maybe we just don't know what we're missing?

They could share an outfielders glove as they do play on the same travel team and other than camps/special events are usually together. I would have no hesitancy going the 1961 route here but again, was just looking for other options/deals.

The upgrades I was referring to was buying a new web and sending your existing 1929 to Jeffrey Rous in Texas to install new web, re-lace, and replace both thumb and pinky inserts. When he re-laced and replaced the inserts in Anna’s first custom Vinci, that glove came back better than new!

For what I **think** Drakemir can get you a new 1929 for........no, I don’t think there’s a better (cheaper) option out there for you.

Have you taken a look at the Mizuno Pro Selects? They’re a notch above the Global Elites which is a also a really good glove compared to the Mizuno Classics that millions of girls have turned into floppy rags! The Pro Select is a great option you should take a look at.

Appreciate all of the replies so far...

Just had the girls switch gloves for a bit and both had comments about the other's glove, none of which were particularly helpful. My catcher/3rd base DD thought the Vinci 1929 was small (in height) and said she'd probably be that kid who gets beaned as she's catching something off the tip. She was laughing at this and not completely serious but...

I did look at the Mizuno Pro Select and they are nice (way better than the old Mizuno I've used for years. Yet another option. I also like the looks of the Liberty Advanced gloves and keep hearing good things about them.

If someone could forward me Jeffrey Rous' contact info in TX that'd be great...trying to get a handle on that option.

Trying to keep this limited to two gloves for now! Gonna have to limit the trips to the concession stand!

Those Rawlings Liberty Advanced look like some great patterns, just wish they offered them in true Heart of the Hide baseball leather instead of featherlight leather....

They do, you just have to go the custom route. If you go custom It gives you three different leather options....Liberty Advanced, HOH and Pro Preferred. If you switch over to the baseball version of that glove It gives you the option of Gamer XLE, HOH and Pro Preferred. I went Liberty Advanced, Aly would have one heck of a time trying to break In that HOH or Pro Pref.
