I really don't see it making much difference. A few inches between coming off the ground and dragging is what I would expect to be the norm.
✔️ for batters timing is timing, hit the ball!

Honestly, what I'm more concerned with is instructors starting to encourage/teach it as opposed to just not addressing it. Kids dropping down at the end of the stride as opposed to landing in a nice arc is already a big enough issue. Anchor drag, forward posture, and collapsing front side is a big enough problem already. I've seen some discussions among high-level instructors who say they aren't gonna put emphasis on leaping, and if it happens it happens, as long as the mechanics are correct. I'm fairly new to instructing, but so far in that regard I just talk about getting the hip where it needs to be and I'm not really talking about drag.
Good mechanics timing sequence all that stuff is best goal. Obviously there will be some that will be able to increase more distance (than others) gaining ground with those details in mind.

Ah, I find men's fastpitch to be incredibly hard to watch.

I just don't understand the point of it.

And I think it is a common opinion as the sport seems to be dying off.

However, I can appreciated the athleticism of the pitching.

It has the challenge of

1. Competing with another similar and much bigger known men's/male sport being baseball.

2. Generally, Not offered as an option sport in youth leagues/school/college.

3. Because of #2, For most of men's fastpitch players its a Hobby Sport considered after college age.

4. Noticeably slow pitch leagues are abundant.
