Hello my extended family of SB fanatics.

Question -

While my pitching DD still heals from her lumbar stress fracture she got from mainly pitching too many reps on hard indoor surfaces I want to prepare some additional equipment for her so that when she gets back into the circle later this summer she has all the help I can provide to protect her "kinetic chain" (basically the shock path through the body that pitching can induce)

Does anyone have any "best recommendations" for orthotic solutions for a very high arch footed pitcher to reduce the shock on the bodies kinetic chain? (or anything else for that matter in reducing the overall shock the pitchers body is subjected too)???

Thanks & happy World Series viewing!!

Do you have a Good Feet store in your area? While my son doesn't play sports they were great with his arch supports for flat feet and did have a special one for when he used to play tennis

The also did great work with inserts when DW had plantar fasciitis.

I am a podiatrist. See a Podiatrist in your area. Specifically look for one who specializes in sports medicine.

There is a fine line between controlling enough motion and controlling too much motion. The act of 'pronating' (the inward rotational flattening of the foot) actually acts to absorb shock. A very rigid foot type usually results in the 'heavy walker'.

Orthoses used for a very high arch rigid foot usually serve to reduce motion further. Be careful. Ask a professional not some shoe store guy that was slinging burgers or selling cell phones last week.

Good luck. You may also find it particularly helpful to seek advise on specific targeted physical therapy to strengthen those areas involved.

That is good advice to see a Dr and or specialist.

You never know what you will get from "some shoe guy". But in the Good Feet's defence the people that I've dealt with in my area all had 5+ years of experience at the company and they specialize in orthotic inserts and shoes. In fact our pediatrician was so impressed with the orthotics that my son got from them he was going to recommend them over their in house orthotics department whihc he thought was both more expensive and not as good. This is an HMO mind you so that might have something to do with his recomendation.

My ortho sent me to a running store like a Good Feet for non customized inserts for my DD. so why not start there and save some money on ortho visit?

Thanks for all the inputs here.

I think the biggest challenge might be getting any orthotic insert to stay secure inside DD's shoe. Maybe I will have to superglue them in place.....

The ones my son had came with matching velcro dots. One went inside the shoe and one went on the insert.

I wouldn't super glue them. At the prices they charge for that stuff you want to be able to move them from shoe to shoe.

I picked up two sets at the local sports-plex:
* Superfeet Green
* Lynco Aetrex

We'll see how it goes and I will report back.

Thanks all!
