I'm sure that some of you are unaware that there is a professional fastpitch league but I'm sure you know many of it's players: Jennie Finch, Monica Abbott, Cat Osterman, Crystal Bustos, Caitlin Lowe, and Vicky Galindo just to name a few. League play finished last week with the Chicago Bandits taking first place for the second staight year and are looking to repeat as the National Champions. The National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) Championship series begins this evening as the Akron Racers, Rockford Thunder, and the USSSA Pride attempt to keep Chicago from that quest.
According to Jennie, Cat, Crystal, et al, the play at this level is the best in the world.
"The competition in this League is much better than you will see with international teams and in international competition. The League has come a long way on that front," said [Crystal] Bustos. "International play does not compete with what you are about to see in the NPF's Championship Series."
The NPF National Championships start this evening and you can watch play live starting at 6:00 PM Eastern time with the Chicago Bandits vs USSSA Pride with likely starting pitcher Jennie Finch against Monica Abbott. The second game begins approx 8:45 with the Akron Racers facing off against the Rockford Thunder with a probably pitching matchup between Angela Tincher and Cat Osterman.
