Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Batter hits a grounder to the right of the pitcher. Shortstop goes to her left to play it and the runner from 2nd plows into her. Ump correctly calls interference on the runner.

What is the result of the play? Who ends up on what bases and who is out?

I believe the umpire has the discretion to call 1 of the other runners out as well, which would end the inning. All offensive players end up in dugout. If not, then 1st and 3rd with 2 out.

Dead ball, the runner from second is out, the runner from third returns to third and the batter is placed on first. ASA 8-7-J and the Note following.

As to Momo'sDad's point, you can only get the batter out if the umpire judges that it was an attempt to prevent a double play. I don't think that's likely in this scenario.

Thanks, I thought so as well. In this case, he called the batter out and had the runners return to 2nd and 3rd. No one questioned it but it didn't seem right to me. Our team was the batting team so it was actually a better ruling for us.

What is the scoring for the batter? Should she be credited with a hit?
