A little back story first. This is a D2 committed SS/power hitter. Last year this player sat out the entire 2017(spring, summer and fall) with a torn ACL from basketball (another story). This player has not pitched in 2 years nor does not want to pitch. She has been rehabbing for nearly a year to get ready for her last HS season and this summer before she heads off to college. We really missed her last year, and missed the playoffs by one game, which she could have made a difference. Coach asks for a meeting with the parents and AD present which was odd, too to get a progress report on her knee. She has been medically cleared to play softball. The AD then tells the parents that they need their DD to pitch this year and were adamant about it. Parents said under no circumstances will she pitch and put undo pressure on a newly healed knee. They do not want to put her scholly in jeopardy due to an injury. BTW our #1 pitcher is out this season due to a surgery for a bone cyst in her femur, hence the pressure for this player to pitch. The coaches wouldn't relent, so the parents pulled her from the team. The same AD couldn't even put together a simple NLI signing party for this player either. So there was already some resentment before this meeting even started. This soon to be season keeps getting worse, and we haven't even started!
