Coachmom, With her signing to play D1, her softball coach is now 100% in charge of her softball career. You need to be changing your role from one of "softball mom" to "student mom".
Stop talking to your DD about softball, and make sure that she has plans after college and exactly how she is going to achieve those goals. You need to lay out a very specific plan on how she is going to get the hours she needs to graduate. Pay very close attention to her schedule and prerequisites for courses.
E.g., if a course she needs to graduate is offered only in the spring, how is she going to take that course during softball season? Or, is she going to have to wait until after she completes her softball career to take the course.
Do not trust the coach to look after your DD's education.
Thank you sluggers for your wise advice. It's easier said than done but Im sure it will get easier for me as time goes on. One thing her coach did mention to us when she was being recruited is that she is very proud of the fact that all of her athletes graduate in 4 years as opposed to 5. We were impressed with that.
BRAG !!! BRAG !!! BRAG !!! ALL YOU WANT... YOU DESERVE IT !!! everybody loves to hear a success story...all that hard work and sacrificies paid off....congrats to you and you dd....GOODLUCK !
