Champions showcase finals on ESPN

The Champions showcase tournament in Atlanta this weekend had their championship games for 14U, 16U and 18U broadcast on ESPN3. The replays are still available online if anyone is "jonesing" for some softball....we lost to the GA Elite 3-4 in the semi-finals, but our sister team won the 16U bracket!

We enjoyed it as well, but I think they open up a Pandora's box when you start playing a showcase to win. Some teams only batted 9, and do you give your uncommitted weaker players preferential playing time, defensive positions, and spots in the batting order? I think I would prefer pool games, and a blind draw single elimination tournament at the end, which is I believe how they do it at the IDT in Colorado.

I can see both sides. We batted 14 thru pool games and 11 in the championship game. 11 was the max number allowed during bracket play. The team we played in the championship game batted 9.
