There is a good story in the Tucson Daily Star about Finch going to pitch against Shelby Babcock, tomorrow.

It goes on to say that Candrea received a commitment from 14 YO, Alexis Mo Mercado, Temecula, CA. She had offers from UCLA, Notre Dame, and Oregon.

He attended the 10U regional finals in Tucson in August and invited the AllStars from San Diego to the stadium.

The article is UA Celebrates Past Great While Building Future. I can't find it on-line.

I am guessing that she was recruited by these colleges as an 8th grader and she made an oral commitment to U of A, last week.
I still can't find the article on-line, which surprises me. News about "Mo", doesn't bring up anything, either. Oh, the paper says, it is a "print exclusive."

Here goes:

In mid August Candrea attended the Western Regional Finals of the girl's 10U trny, in Tucson. Always planning ahead, Candrea invited and then escorted an all star team from San Diego to Hillenbrand Stadium and also gave them a tour of the hall of champions.

Last Wed., C received a recruiting commitment from 14 YO Alexis "Mo" Mercado, a sophomore at Great Oak High School. She is thought to be the best young softball player in America. She is the cousin of Richard Mercado, a former standout UofA baseball catcher.

------- Now, that I have re-read this, she is at least one year ahead in HS. Amy

A player can commit to any college any time they want and at any age they want. Just because they have committed doesnt mean the college is necessarily interested or committed to them.

Commited Last Week Too

I sent Coach Candrea a commitment last week and am waiting to hear from him. I'm hoping he doesn't find out I'm a 48-year old man with a bad shoulder.

Looking forward to another shot at college - in a warm state this time - GM

Well, in my eyes, what's the point of committing if they don't have to uphold their end? it's not different than saying you're interested
