Breaking in a glove

I just bought my daughter the Rawlings Liberty Advanced catchers mitt and the Rawlings shut out series fielding glove. What’s the best way to break them in? Steam? Oil and mallet? What process/method do you recommend? TIA!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What about the steamer that Dicks uses, does that work?

It works too well. Steam is too hot for leather. It really breaks it down quickly, reducing glove life. I don't think any manufacturer recommends steam. I had it done to my dd first 'real' glove. I think I spent $40 -$50 and she was 8. In all of 10 minutes the glove was soft enough for her to close.

When she turned 10 she got an A650 (maybe????). no treatment at all and was game ready in just a couple of weeks of playing catch. It was very soft out of the wrapper.

I bought myself an A2000 this past June. It is still stiff (I am mostly sitting on a bucket with a catchers mitt these days). This winter I used the Obenauf's LP inside and a tiny bit of Lexol on the outside.
