So, I didn't want to interfere with the discussion in the other topic about redrawing batter boxes, but it got me thinking about a situation I encountered this season:
HS, Varsity, NFHS
As some of you may remember, we had a game at a field with a tree in left-field foul territory. This is at the same field at the same game as that situation, and I completely blanked on asking about this. At the plate meeting, after discussing the tree, the PU points out that the foul line on the 1B side has been drawn incorrectly, and is about 3 inches inside 1B when it meets the base (the outside edge of the chalk was about 3 inches inside the base), and continues at the same angle when it comes out the other side.
The PU said he was going to be calling the line as drawn, and I thought it should have been called as it should have been drawn. The line should have been redrawn, but it wasn't, and that was what we had. Besides redrawing the line, what is the appropriate remedy in this situation for the umpire? Call the line as drawn? Or call it as it should be?
