My response was directed to post #23 which was cited in my post. An umpire should NEVER rule on a missed base or a base left too soon without a proper appeal by the offended team

You lost me on this one. Umpires in my area call left too early all the time and all on their own. ASA rule set. I'm curious if we're the exception or other areas are the same.

Just in case it ever comes up. Let me give this situation. Bases loaded 1 out tie came bottom of 7th. Batter hits a sinking liner to RF. She makes a shoe string catch. runner on 3rd tags, but runner on 2nd leaves early. Throw RF sees her leave early and fires to SS covering 2nd. Ball arrives just before runner on 3rd scores. Are you saying that you have to then appeal that she left early and if so when does the appeal start? Because the appeal happened after the run would you lose? In the same situation if the runner on 2nd just put her head down and ran would you still need to appeal or would that be an obvious appeal and negate the run?

I have a feeling you didn't read the OP to realize we are referring to leaving early on first touch on a fly ball, not a pitch.

Yep. Just to let you know, as a HS coach I truly appreciate all of you umps who post on DFP and help clarify things. And, I truly appreciate the vast majority of the umps who do HS ball. True, some are debatable, but we couldn't do it without them. It's also a great learning experience for the girls because, as they go through life, they will have to deal with those who "own the plate." It's best to learn early.
