I would say the hips open before the shoulders so the shoulders don't open the hips. If you were to just take a large stride/step out and (no arm circle needed) check the angle of your hips. Try it with keeping the toes straight or angled and see what it does to your hips.

To expand more on that. I now believe that opening is a no teach. If you teach to have good drive mechanics and the arm circle has a good path everything opens by 12:00. The trick is to allow them to close some but to hold it still through release. Java's words: "...the energy required to move the mass of the torso is energy that could have otherwise gone into the ball. Geek version: Proximal stability creates distal mobility."

Instead of teaching to get open. Teach drive in the beginning, and teach to resist rotation through release.

Thank you for clarifying. Got it.

Not sure why she was moving her feet the way she was. We just got done doing the 2-step drill, so that would be my guess.

Any thoughts to make her relax her during the circle?

We used to drill getting open during the stride, but as a I re-read the Drive mechanics sticky we just started worrying about driving out and letting the stride leg open the hips.

I know she needs to stay stacked and not let the hips push out. Is there a specific drill? It doesn't show up until we are full go.

Here is a series of frames. There is something that does stick out to me. Unfortunately, I am not quite as knowledgeable as some of the other members here. I would dare not say as it probably cause more confusion to the OP.
I am going with the lack of energy....and a better arm path.

I gave ockerj a video in a pm and he noticed that her back foot was stuck on the mound. Which is what I was getting at earlier. So there are timing issues from lack of drive. Separate from the mound sooner, leads to keeping the back knee under you more, and landing with arm closer to 10:00, which in turn leads to better posture. It's hard to have good resistance (keeping torso still) if you don't have good posture.

Now how can she separate sooner? Anyone have ideas?

This is her just working on getting off the pitching rubber, she does a better job of keeping her hips underneath her but I can tell she needs better frontside resistance.

Well this a few pitches from the other night. Simply working on moving off the pitching rubber as fast as we can. We definitely have a ways to go. This clip has 3 pitches and its mixed. The first pitch is her most common miss and I can really tell the she is flying open with her glove arm.

Then a couple of clips from tonight. I apologize for the quality, just me videoing on my phone trying to catch.

We worked on squeezing the butt cheeks in our drill work prior to pitching tonight, and then we tried to quiet down our load. Lots of ugly pitches tonight but the ones that didn't go crazy, were very good.
