The topic is that FFS is promoting a rear lower back axis point for the swing. He is also advocating an action of spinal bend. Both are waist separation.
I am not one for spinal bend. Rather, and I think some of you might remember me talking about this back in the day, when coaching my daughter, we talked about a sense of butt sticking out, straight back, slight pelvic tilt and then "hit with the back hip." In doing this, she came into what I call lateral tilt with is more like the gears being shown.

What FFS says is what has been demonstrated for years. It is how it has been taught for years. The demonstration TM shows is nothing new.

I definitely don't know the history like you guys CB. I read the old threads, but I've only been here for 5 years. But IMO, what FFS says isn't what is being demonstrated. Lateral tilt is not side bend. Lateral tilt takes place in the rear hip socket. It is the movement that allows the leg to be the driver. Lateral tilt is what puts it all together............

I have too also disagree. I've read every thread on BBD and TM stuff/teachings are different. If they(teachings) were the same why would I have continued searching to read more from TM. His blog helped fill in the pieces that were missing from others teachings. Just my opinion and how I see it.

Believe what you want to believe. Back in the day, and off the top of my head, Englishbey had threads on his private site entitled, "The Tilted Tornado" and something like "Initiated Geometries of the Swing." Englishbey also had a thread entitled, "The Three Rotations" where he broke down the rotations of the hips, shoulders and wrist. These concepts of hip action were discussed in detail back then on his site. I could make more comments but it is senseless for me to point out things I've noticed over the years. The end result is if something here or elsewhere helps hitters and dads, then great. Hey everyone have a great day. I'm off today and headed to the Dentist.

Side note, BB joined a high school staff yesterday and, believe it or not, will be doing pitching.

All that tilt stuff from EH was about tilting over the plate. 3 rotation were both hips, both shoulders (torso) and the front wrist. Nothing could be farther than what some of us (using Rich's stuff) are talking about.

Which one do you teach? ferris wheel or merry-go-round?

I watched the TM video. He said the tilting and the barrel path are combined. He said the barrel path was keeping the barrel perpendicular with the rear forearm. He also makes many, many references to launching the barrel straight back, the barrel staying in a ferris wheel path (perpendicular to the rear forearm). You could say he promotes dumping the barrel.

So he is talking about the tilting AND the barrel path when discussing the ferris wheel motion.

Bonds isn't all ferris wheel or doing what TM says in his video. The barrel moves into the merry-go-round, or is "sucked" a merry-go-round path (follows the plane of the shoulders).

Shawn,

Bond's barrel is being launched around the rear forearm rearward. That is ferris wheel. His rear leg is turning forward as the barrel is turned rearward. He tilts at the hip socket which tilts his shoulders. His hands have already determined the barrels path as it was getting turned rearwards. The swing is done from an action making standpoint.

The initial axis of rotation for a good swing is the rear lower back. That does not happen due to the usage of the forearms .... although the forearms are certainly used.
