Hi All

Started working with DD on her swing and would like help with what should I address first and tips/drills on how to do that. Here is her vid bellow from last week or so.

There are far more qualified people to give you a response- to me she looks pretty good!

A couple of things I noticed that might be worth looking at:
- Her back knee looks like it is pointing outwards at the start of the swing- if she straightens her back heel & toe rather than keeping her toes pointed outwards, it would help keep the knee inside for better rotation.
- Her elbows lead her hands (but it doesnt look like the barrel is dragging or dropping that much...). It would be better if her hips went first, then her arms, rather than it all happening at the same time. See how her shoulders turn at the same time as her hips? Try opening her hips while keeping the shoulders square, then letting the rest follow.
- After contact her back leg straightens out again instead of maintaining the nice balance she had when it was bent. It kind of forces her to end her rotation earlier than she could- see how you can see her back pocket but then it vanishes instead of being maintained?
- She finishes high & bent, changing this to lower & extended would also help continue that rotation.
- Head looks good although would be interested to see if she could achieve less movement after contact.

I could be very wrong- we're trying to undo 8 years worth of intense linear teaching. Just wanted to comment because your DD looks athletic and motivated and confident- good luck to you both!

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and give me your thoughts. I appreciate it.

Yea that back foot could be turned a little more

Could you say further what you mean by low and extended?

These are the things I see that need fixed. Not to be mean...
flat bat, circular swing,( pre loaded, all back all forward), out of sequence, stiff front leg early.

I'd focus on her sequence...
Self toss (as much as possible)
Happy Gilmore drill (walk up drill)
When she gets better with the above, she can combine the two drills.

I agree looks pretty good. Solid starting point. I think I would focus on two small things. In the bottom half of her swing, stacking her knee, hip and shoulder into a straighter line. this will allow the ball to travel deeper into the zone for her and will help her resist pushing up on her back toe. When she does this the level of her swing goes up and down, IE.. fly balls, or balls driven into the ground in front of the plate. I see her moving up or down to the ball a bit just a bit. In the top I would also like to see more extension through contact. This will increase power and promote line drives, and decrease fly balls and her rolling over the top of slower pitches.

Again, IMO. Good luck, keep working hard, she looks good.

Some pretty good core movements creating change in direction..

Now try to sync up the hand/wrist actions (working the barrel) with the core actions and she will be in pretty good shape.
