Glove Modifications?

My daughter has a Vinci CBW413 Fastpitch First Baseman's mitt and
absolutely loves it! After trying several, she settled on this one about
two years ago and hasn't touched another glove since.

Early last year she sustained a thumb injury. It is fully healed, but with
kids throwing harder she likes using an Evo Shield Catchers thumb guard
in the glove during long practices. It's a bit clumsy, and she says it affects the feel of catching the ball.

Is there any modification that anyone can think of, that would incorporate some additional solid protection like this internal to the glove?

I emailed Vinci already, and they don't do that sort of thing.

You might want to send a PM to Casedawg51, but I am not aware of a way to expand the thumb hole to accommodate an Evo shield thumb guard.

This may damage the glove, so I would consult someone in the know at Vinci, but you may be able to expand the thumb slot by wetting it and inserting a pipe or something to stretch the slot then let it dry around it. Not sure how well this would work with a glove, but I have seen boot cobblers and saddle makers do this to expand leather a bit. If you can expand the slot you could then use leather adhesive to add a layer, or with extra room may have better fit with evoshield. Tandy Leather may have some options there as well. If you're in an area that has a good boot shop you may want to consult them as well.

I will get a hold of him for sure. It's not really about expanding the hole, as the guard fits in there no problem. The problem is that it shifts around, is a little large, and can get lost. I'd like to figure out something permanent to the glove so those issues go away.

It sounds like it wasn't formed exactly right for her hand and the mitt. Getting that process right with the EvoShield can be frustrating...and expensive.

Another good option might be the Catcher's Thumb. It takes some additional craftsmanship to get the shape correct, but it has a significant advantage of being re-moldable.

I live in NC, I've shipped two gloves to a guy in Texas named Jeffrey Rous for complete rebuilds. Completely taken apart, replaced thumb and pinkie stays, clean and condition and full relace. He does killer work and he's fast. PM me for his contact info. He's kinda like Casedawg and Core, didn't know anything about him other than word of mouth and he's great to work with.

Rous is the man. Just got 3 back from him a couple weeks ago. Only thing I can think of would be to maybe try to layer a piece of molded plastic between the layers of leather , in there with the felt.
