Minnesota’s HS baseball championships are in Minneapolis at Target Field where the Twins play. The girls are in a city park on slow pitch fields with temp fences in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds just like Alabama. The girls are on slow pitch fields at a city park and the boys play at a really nice AA field and college field.

Sounds like colleges in some states should be a little more open about letting the High Schools Championships play at their facilities since they are empty and unused right now and have been for the past couple of weeks.

It's politics and tourism dollars. The state HS league doesn't want to shell out to rent local college fields when hick towns will let them play on their parks cheaper. I suspect there's over perks that are traded too. Not sure what, but I just know nobody in their right mind would rather play in city park a hundred miles away than at the U of M or local college, or even a HS field with permanent fences and lots of seating area for that matter.

There is a pretty big debate in Alabama over the host site of our state championship tourney. It is held at Lagoon Park in Montgomery which is basically a men's slow pitch park. Infields are cut into what would normally be the OF for fastpitch and they use the wonderful plastic 4' temp fences. It is sad that 90% of the teams competing in the tournament play their regular season at nicer facilities. It has gotten to the point several college coaches in the state including Murphy have spoken up with their opinion.

I keep seeing posts on Twitter from other states and the facilities used are 1000x better than ours. I was wondering where does your state host their championship games?
TN is in the same boat as you all. We play at two parks next to each other. One is a slow pitch park with temp fences made of fence spikes and cheap construction type netting which someone could be impaled by. The other has permanent fencing, but the fields are different dimensions! All of these fields have safety netting over the back stop which extends out to home plate taking a lot of pop ups out of play (catcher Dad rant). The prices are insane at $10 per person and $5 to park per day over four days. Spots in the outfield were worn to the dirt and painted green at the nicer park.

The baseball state tournament is played at local high school fields in the same area which are much nicer than what our girls are forced to play on. It’s really a shame and a money grab all in one!

Just out of curiosity, why isn't the Summit of Softball or Warner Park used for the championships? We live in GA and ours are in Columbus where the Olympics were held.

I wish I had an answer to that question, lol! You would still be dealing with some temporary fences, but both of those parks are head and shoulders above McKnight and Starplex where we play. TN sells the event as the Spring Fling, where softball, baseball, tennis, soccer and track state championships are held in Murfreesboro, TN south of Nashville, during the same week. Other than being a fairly central location, there is no other positive to playing there.

It's not the colleges. It is 100% the AHSAA. Several college coaches have jumped on board with this discussion and how there needs to be a change including Murphy at UA.
