Email scammers hack rec league

I don't know whether they're Nigerian, Jamaican, Indian, or Russian (the language cues indicate they're not Russian), but the local softball league email has recently been hacked. The perpetrators sent a disbursement request from the president to the treasurer. Both women are incredibly sharp, so within a couple of exchanges, they sniffed out that there had been a hack, but my concern - apart from the security of the system we and other local leagues use (they've been alerted) - is that other leagues may be at risk as well. I doubt any league treasurers around the country would FedEx a check to an imaginary scholarship fund based out of an assisted-living apartment complex in Hickory, NC, but you never know. I try to keep my radar up, but I must confess that I would never have expected a youth league website to be vulnerable to this sort of attack.

FWIW - This sound more like a phish than an actual hack. If the email addresses are listed on the website it is a pretty straight forward process.

True. Plus, people can easily change the alias of their e-mail address so that it looks like it's coming from someone you know. If you click on the name, it'll usually show you what the actual e-mail address was. I wouldn't worry about any sensitive information, unless it was sent.
