DD doesn't play TB - she's still doing 14U rec. One of her friend's team had need for a pickup this weekend and she actually said she'd do it. The coach's daughter had broken her ankle so they needed an outfielder. So we get there on Saturday and one of the other girls had hit her head the day before and it turned out she had a hairline fracture in her skull - so she had to be taken to the hospital - she did end up coming to the games but after playing one inning - they figured there was something more wrong (she had only complained about a headache the day before). She was their SS so DD ended up playing SS for them.

They had enough to play but just enough - no one sat since they only had 9. DD ended up batting 7/11 with a triple. They lost two of their pool games and won one which put them as 3rd in their pool. The tournament then split the 3 pools into two brackets and we ended up with a bye for the first round and a win would put us in the championship. There were only 6 in our bracket.

Ended up winning the first bracket game and then were down in the championship game but came back and then were able to hold them to win 7-5. First tournament win for this team and of course for DD (she had played TB last spring but they didn't do very well). Now DD is actually saying she likes this team and the coach has expressed interest in her - esp since their starting SS is out for the season. She might play again with them next weekend! It's a big decision for her because if she plays more than one TB tournament she is not eligible for rec All-Stars :/

They did formally ask her to be part of the team and she said she would - we've been trying to get her to do travel for a couple of seasons. She tried out a few times last fall but wasn't very interested. So now her spring/summer is full of rec games still and now TB tournaments.
I'm really proud of her for trying it and realizing she liked it! She kept worrying the coach didn't like her because she missed one of his signs - his armband is so different than the one they use in rec...

First of all, congrats! Sounds like a great weekend.

If your daughter is going 7 for 11 in a travel tournament, it's probably time to think about giving up on Rec. I don't say that lightly, I'm a Rec coach and my daughter loves playing with the girls she's been with since tee ball. But as a second-year 12, we know that this is her last go-round in Rec.

You mentioned that your daughter played travel last spring and didn't have much success. I assume that means that she skipped Rec last year and had a tough season. She might be torn because Rec is comfortable, but it sounds like she's ready to be challenged. She's got a team that she likes and they need her? Go for it!

ETA: Haha, we were typing at the same time! Great choice, enjoy the ride.

Last spring she did rec and travel at the same time. This past fall she wasn't even going to do rec and just do middle school sb but got convinced to join the 18U rec team where she did well. She wants to try-out for high school softball this spring and we figured TB would be the best way for her to get better. But some of her better friends she has on rec are also playing TB - one of whom will be on this team with her. So she gets the best of both. Her rec coach is actually an assistant coach on the TB team so that helps - she's been playing with him since 2014.
