Update DD... To confront coach or not

Well, I have an update to the thread below about my DD not getting to play. Come to find out she hurt her left thumb a couple of weeks ago and didn't tell anyone. The coach told my wife - who asked the coach after a game when he was by himself - in a nice and open way, why wasn't she playing...

Does your HS talk to local TB coaches

SCdad... I assume you live in the same state as me. I've only been involved with softball a year and a half. I stand behind my comments about TB and HS softball. Your dd must be a can't miss prospect on a very good HS team. My dd is not. A mediocre at best program that struggles to win and...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

Update: My DD did not talk to the coach like she said she was. Had a game last night that she did not get to play in again. She seemed happy and upbeat about it. My wife thinks she doesn't want to talk to the coach, she hasn't matured enough yet. I am not going to say anything to the coach...

Does your HS talk to local TB coaches

I have never coached HS softball but I have coached TB. Here in SC, you do have some HS coaches that also coach TB. The rule is (my understanding) you can have two of your HS players on the TB squad and that is it. Not only are these some good coaches, they know what is going on around them...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

Thanks for all the talk on this subject. I will keep everyone posted as my dd talked about this last night after the team lost 6-4 and she didn't play at all. She said she will talk to the coach herself. We will see what happens. I do think politics are involved and that is not good...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

I am trying to avoid stating anything negative about the coaching and others players. I really am. Hey, I played baseball from the time I was 5 through HS. Decided to go to a college that didn't have a baseball team. I get it. The real pain for ME in all of this is out of 28 possible...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

To me it can be both subjective and objective. Subjective is in one's mind. Objective is the goal side of it. "Fair" in an objective state is to accomplish something. I want to see who my best players are, I will fairly play them to see who is best. This may have been done at practice as well.

Confront a coach or not to confront?

You must be reading my mind LAS. This is tough on me. All you said is true. I am not perfect nor a perfect coach but I did play all of the girls equally during a tourny. Esp. when it was four games in one day.

Confront a coach or not to confront?

Fair point nanotech14. I will talk to her about this. Definition of the word "fair" is objective.

Confront a coach or not to confront?

Thanks for stating the obvious. Good thing we live in America and have free will... I wanted opinions and I got some very good ones.

Confront a coach or not to confront?

I appreciate everyone letting me vent here in this forum, instead of looking like a dumb@$$ in front of the coach. I just want what every father wants, his dd to be treated fairly. This is the first time I have seen the playing field through a parent's eye instead of the coach. This may be...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

The need is in the outfield. There is one returning player, who plays a very good center field. Left and right were left vacant. Three freshman are vowing for two positions. The one is left I am ok with because she is the better overall athlete. Like I said prior, the girl in right is the...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

I actually agree with everyone's comments. Confront is the wrong term as it comes across as being aggressive. Yes, I am being a helicopter parent. That I see, that is why I posted the question here first. I don't want my dd to get preferential treatment. She has two games this week, I will...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

I want to know what my daughter needs to improve on to get playing time. I don't want to blow out a candle in order for my daughter to shine. I have coached before, 9 years total if you include baseball. The team was 3-1 in the tourney, only lost was in championship game. They lost 10-0 and...

Confront a coach or not to confront?

My daughter is playing varsity this year on the high school softball team. She is in ninth grade. The team lost a lot of girls last year to graduation. The team had a tournament this past weekend to kick off the season. In four games she got one at bat and played one inning in the field. One...

    41 to 0

As a coach of a 14u TB team that is very young and not very good, I have had coaches of other teams show me mercy with them stepping off the bases. I did not mind it, nor did I take it as charity or being embarassed. It is part of the game. One thing that I have noticed with "elite" TB teams...

Any of you coaches ever thrown in the towel on your team?

I am at a crossroad with my 14u travel team. We are not very good and we knew this from the start. The expectations were set, etc. I had a parent team meeting three weeks ago and we agreed to continue playing through the fall and splitting the teams up next year (16u and 14u). The parents...

Runner on 2nd, less than two outs bunt defense

I am seeing fear in my 3rd baseman to really charge the ball. It seems either she or 1st are a step slow getting to the bunt which results in not getting any outs.

"Me before Team" A downward spiral.

I had a baseball coach once tell me to interview parents before you start TB. If the parents didn't give the answers he wanted, he didn't get the kid no matter how good he was. I should have done that myself.

Runner on 2nd, less than two outs bunt defense

I had this scenario come up many times this past weekend. Runner on 2nd and less than two outs. What is the best way to defend the bunt? Just let the team sacrifice and take the out at 1st or try to make a play at third? This is 14u and we played a team that small balled us to death. Any...
