I will admit I know minimal about the sport and am trying to learn as much as possible. I've got 13 girls from a six year old who never has thrown a softball to an eight year old that played select last fall.
What training tools are best? Tee, balls, what else?
What are the best resources...
I've checked the rulebook and cannot find a rule that says I can't have them bunt. Our rulebook is the 2013 little league softball official regulations and rule book that is orange and white that's put out by Little League
I have scoured the rule book and cannot find anywhere it says I cannot have them bunt. So is this legal? I think it would put them at a huge advantage knowing how to and bunting in the right situation.
First game of the year is Friday and I'm wondering what kind of shorts coaches wear? I wear a mizuno batting pullover, not sure if I wear gym shorts or like khaki shorts.
Which practice would you introduce the mitt?
Would you have the parents playing catch with them (kid throws to parent->parent rolls grounder back to them) in this manner at the beginning of each practice as a warm-up or no?
1. So you made them play catch with tennis balls the first month? Was this beneficial in the end you think?
2. Fielding- so you rolled the ball to them, like a grounder? And made them field it as if it were a softball and throw it to 1st?
Just clarifying, thanks........
Wow great info!
Base running - you mean game situations or just basic bases?
My biggest issue is these girls can't even catch the ball withtheir gloves wwhile playing catch - how do I get them to catch just playing toss?
Hey i was just asked to coach a girls 5-7 year old softball team here in Houston. I don't mind it, but have no idea what to do at practice or how to structure it. Almost all of these girls cannot catch a ball or even throw properly so warming up tthrowing to each other seems out of the question...
