    Scrappy

Your kid plays hard with determination & aggression...definitely a compliment.

    Why girls give up softball.

Our high school senior 6-hole hitter went 0-for in a 4 game stretch. She is a decent hitter, batting about .350 the last 2 years. After the the 5th game, she is drilling me with questions...should I move up in the box, am I pulling my head, should I use a lighter bat, etc. I ask her what her...

    Pitching and turf toe

My DD sprained her big toe (turf toe) playing bball, as she was tripped and fell forward excessively bending her big toe upward. This was a single incident that caused her turf toe. She did not pitch for about 2 weeks, as this was her drive foot, and pitching caused her pain and affected her...

    2018 Easton Ghost

Our high school team has 2 girls swinging a Ghost, and they (the girls & the Ghosts) are performing well...they switched from a Mako and a CF9 We also have 3 girls that swing Makos...2 swing Xenos...1 swings a CF9...and 1 swings a Synergy Speed. All of these girls have tried the Ghost. 1 of...

    3-Pitch Inning

As a pitcher's dad, I used to think the 9-pitch-3-strikeout inning was the best. But now, I like the 3-pitch inning better (quicker, lower pitch count, & more team involvement). And as a third base coach, I do give the take sign after a 2-pitch-2-out start to an inning. Beeg - Congrats to...

    Scrimmage Ideas in practice

We do the above. But I cannot simulate good high school pitching...so I pitch from about 25-feet and behind a protective screen. If a batted ball hits the screen, we just play it.

    Pitching Circle

I agree with shaker1 Coach Foster... Bags or buckets of clay are the way to go. Use broom to remove loose dirt from holes and troughs caused by pitchers...add water to wet the dirt in the bottom of holes & troughs...add clay...tamp clay...rake 1/4" of loose dirt on top of clay...lightly water...

    Timing issues vs slow pitching

As already stated, keep with the slow front toss...including slow front toss to the outside corner that she hits oppo...and get timing practice while on deck. Keep being encouraging.

    Is her bat too light?

^^^ This Get her into a 32" and around 22 ounces.

Fall Softball - How is it done?

Been doing softball/baseball for 20+ years in north-central Indiana. Nothing better than September softball/baseball in a fall league or travel. Daughter played high school volleyball and softball. IMHO, volleyball in the spring and softball in the fall is a no-brainer for Indiana.

    Spring weather

Worst spring for outside sports in my 20 years of doing this in north-central Indiana. But I have heard stories around here of baseball not being played at all in April in the mid-70's due to long winters...snow on the ground until May.

    Mercy ?

Once the lead is 15 or more, subtly walk off base(s)...base coach quietly tells base umpire to look for it...runner casually steps off and trots back to dug out after called out. If done correctly, it is almost hard to recognize. Our high school games require you to get the other team out 15...

    Tell on a rise

^^^ The above is what we have used with some success. Basically, telling the kids that if it looks belt-high, don't swing.

Clues That The Scorebook Is Cooked

Some years, we may play a team 4 times (regular season, county tourney, conference tourney, Sectional). At the end of the year, I may see some girl with a .400+ batting average that I do not even remember from our games. I check our book, and she may have been 2 for 15 in our games...she must...

    Spring weather

Here in north-central Indiana, played Friday in 29-degrees and snow flurries; Monday in 35-degrees and snow flurries; hit 40 last night at practice. But walking into work this morning with a southerly breeze and a forecasted high of 59! Unfortunately, Monday's forecast is 39 and snow...

    Pitcher warm ups

Could you give some more details on how you have used long toss for pregame warm up? Is it the last thing done before pitching. How many? What distances? I know it may vary from kid to kid, but can you give me a general idea for a decent high school age pitcher to start using in their warm...

    Carley Hoover

Carley has been a trooper this year, as she pitches with a bum knee. At times, she has had trouble getting on and off the field in between innings, let alone pitch. Anyone know what her specific knee injury is, and what is the recovery plan...surgery, rehab, rest??? She took about a 2-week...

    Cracked Bat??

I would go with a -10. 31/21 would be the next step. But at 12 she will need a 32/22 very soon and may even be able to handle a 32/22 now. Seems from 10 years old to 16, they need a new bat every year. My DD is 17, and this is the first year she did not move up in bat size. But I still...
