    catchers mitt suggestions

My DD is a 14 yo freshman, varsity starting catcher, who also plays travel. Last night while warming up the pitcher the lacing in the pocket of her glove (a mizuno gsx92 - I think) broke. The coach was able to tie the glove back together enough to play and the glove is going to be restrung, but...

    Ok, I'm a bad parent...again

DD went through this last year. She keeps an "extra kit" in her bag. Unopened extra pair of contacts, contact holder and solution, in a small inexpensive makeup bag. I also got her glasses and sunglasses for the times that the contacts have irritated her eyes.

    Easton Bat

My understanding is that the Stealth is now th FX line (not to be confused with the FS which is the Synergy replacement) The FX1 is for power hitters and the FX2 is for slappers.

    Look back rule again

Sorry I was trying to be brief so was unclear. The runner would round 1st and wait, to the point everyone would have to wait for the runner do something. I know the 3rd time the next batter was in the box. After the 3rd time of the same runner doing this the coach did make the appeal. The...

    Look back rule again

I believe the look back rule applies to this situation, but would like clarification Batter is walked, catcher catches the ball and returns to the pitcher (no loss of control). Batter runs to first and turns to second, hesitates then eventually walks back to first. The pitcher does not look at...

In need of a new -8 bat.

DD likes a heavier bat so I have wondered if she can use a slowpitch bat in fastpitch (high school and travel). If you can find on my DD is currently using a Demarini Phenix -8, she likes it becasue feels like a -10, but with the extra weight.

    Travel ball help

I am replying, from the point of view of a parent. Titles are not as important as organization and co-operation among coaches. My DD played on a team that the HC would pout if a game was going bad, was unorganized and often on vacation, allowed lots of blame placing by the girls and drink at...

DD is ready for a new bat...what to get?

I saw this posted before, so when looking for a new bat for my DD, I read the info and contacted the manufacturers. I cannot speak about all brand but of the ones my DD considers this is not true.

2013 DeMarini CF5 vs. new Easton Power Brigade?

Last night I bought my DD a new Phenix 33/25, to replace her current 12 CF5(33/24). She was testing the 12 and 13 CF5 (33/24), 12 and 13 insane and fx1 (33/24). She was hitting the best with the phenix, said it had the smoothest swing. The second choice was the FX1 but felt she had to push more...

    Cold weather survival gear

Mittens instead of gloves when possible make a big difference.

    looking 4 new bat

Has anyone tried the oneX? I hate the sound of the xeno so avoid letting my DD even try one. How do they compare to the Hope and/or Insane (she has swing both and want one of each). she currently has a CF5 -9 and a synergy clarity.

    Catchers helmets

My daughter had a foul tip that she could not react to. The ball only changed it's path slightly and came in to hit here in the small gap between the top of her chest protector and the bottom of her face mask, she was hit in the throat/ upper chest. The chances of having a ball come at her just...

The dangers of over pitching your 10-12 YOs

I remember reading once that the softball pitching motion is "more natural" than a baseball pitching motion and not as hard on the body, which might explain some of the higher pitch counts in softball than baseball. Having said that, I also think a combination of factors contribute to...

    Infield fly question

My understanding is once an ump has called infield fly, the base runners can still run, which usually does not happen. Do they need to tag up before running? Or is this treated like an uncaught ball? (In effect the ump's call is similar the ball touching the ground, ie: still in play but not...

I need a straight answer on this...

My understanding is there have been several things in this thread that were wrong. 1 the runner can use any part of the base, the orange part is for avoiding a collision, but not required to be used. 2 the orange part of the base is for the runner only. if the defense uses the orange part of...

    USSSA Announcement on Bat Certification

Around here USSSA and IFA, have most of the tourneys, some NSA, WFC and AAU. ASA lists a few tourneys but most get cancelled at the last minute becasue only 2 or 3 teams enter.

    Yet another dropped third question

Runner was called safe because the throw was late. My take is the runner was out when the umpire called her out and she did not move/try to run to first. Then when the ball was thrown back to the pitcher it no longer was a live ball, the play was over, except for the batter going to the dug out.
