What's Better - Nationals or Exposure Tournament?

This year it was the nationals, at least in 16U. DD's team went to a lot of showcases including Vegas and Colorado. The first couple of days of the ASA nationals you couldn't turn around without bumping into a scout. I have never seen that many.

    Elite pitchers at 12 O'clock

5pots, Having been where you are I know how tough it is. One of the things we did that helped was making sure she planted consistently. Have her throw her fastball. When she strides out make sure her stride foot lands in the same place every time. 5 pitches one foot print. This is...

    ASA Nationals

Just got home from Owensboro. Lady Magic beat Chaos for the championship. Good game through five but Chaos pitching was all used up during the long last day and just ran out of gas.

Big Fish in Small Pound or Small Fish in Big Pound?

cfranzoni: Something you said set the alarm bell off for me. My dd has a strong arm. When she was playing 12U rec no one on the team could/would catch her throw. She developed this noodle arm thing to slow down her throw. It took forever to get her throw back. Even a year later the noodle...

    10 year old pitching

A very good book is "The Windmill Pitcher" by Barry Sammons. It's 15 bucks or less on Amazon. The book covers just about everything involved with pitching. This book was recommended to me by my dd's first paid pitching coach. Again this is a very good book and probably exactly what you are...

    What ages/levels advanced pitches

#1, Here is a link to a good short article on taking care of pitching arms. Softball West Magazine - Lots of stuff to do and watch out for.

    What ages/levels advanced pitches

I am sure you are right Elliott. Hopefully #1 has found a responsible coach like yourself. I do think you need to put out there that there is potential for problems if the young pitcher isn't developed properly and there are coaches out there that aren't neccassarily in the best interest of...

    What ages/levels advanced pitches

#1, My dd's pitching coach wouldn't let her throw the movement pitches till she was 12 and kept it very limited till she was 14. Fast ball, change up and peel drop was it. Her coach was concerned that the movement pitches put too much stress on her arm bones and growth plates and other stuff...

    Does the riseball really rise???

Rick, I dont have one of those devices that measure spin and would like to use your expertise and save myself some money. When dd is throwing the rise you can hear the ball spinning. It is a buzz you can hear clearly 20 or 30 feet away. At what spin rate do balls start making this noise?

    Bunting with Two Strikes

Giving a struggling batter a six or seven hundred batting average sounds like good coaching to me. One thing to add, when it doesn't work, fake a big deal about her missing her sign, it will mess with the opposing coaches heads.

Net/screen for indoor back yard use

Our favorite is the Dual Sports Practice Partner. Very solid frame and good canvas. Stitching will give out on the ball pocket with heavy use. Took ours to a local upholsterer and had it reinforced and resewn. It is also very portable, we take it to the field when we dont have a catcher, dad...

When does daughter handle her own problems

I'm just a parent, no expertise at all, but I have watched hundreds and hundreds of softball games and have never seen second cover the bunt.

    Slapping the leg

My dd does slap her leg when she pitches. Not hard enough to bruise but her thigh is usually red after she pitches. The slapping is an end result of pulling down with the glove hand and was taught to her by her pitching coach (the pulling down part not the slapping). Pulling down the glove...

    Need some bat advice

Thanks Stacie, the report gave me some bats to look into.

    Need some bat advice

My dd is 16 and plays for a travel team. She swings a Easton Stealth. She really likes the bat but as I write this we are currently waiting for the second replacement. They become loose and wiggle in the middle. We are careful about breaking the bat in they just don't seem to hold up for...
