12 YO pitcher with shoulder pain

She was still hurting today so I took her to an Ortho/Sports Med doc. He said everything looked good and determined it to be muscular. He said to take it easy for a week and she should be good to go.

Thanks for the input. She said it is feeling better today. We are going to rest through the weekend and contact a doctor Monday if it is not 100%.

12 YO pitcher with shoulder pain

My DD pitched 2 games in her first tournament of the season (one Sat, one Sun). Nothing out of the ordinary. I want to say 120ish pitches. She has been pitching about a year and a half. She sees a PC once a week and has good mechanics. She took Monday off to rest and recoup. We went out to...

    Ready for 3rd pitch

My DD learned the screwball as her third pitch, seemed like a natural move for her from the way she tended to throw FB. PC had her work on curve and drop spins for a week to see which was more natural, we went with drop fourth......she hasn't mastered it yet, but she loves the pitch.

How get DD to push herself

My DD is inspired to work harder after pitching a "better than usual" game or getting an "attagirl" from her coach. Not just a "good job" but a "Wow! Where did that come from? You were on fire!!" kind of attagirl. Of course those would be few and far between......but she can ride that...

How Many Pitchers on your Roster?

Just curious how many pitchers your team has on the roster. Are they similar in ability? How many is too many? Too few? How many games per month will make them (reasonably) happy?

    Coaching Girls vs Coaching Boys

Truer words were never spoken! “Boys have to play well to feel good about themselves – Girls have to feel good about themselves to play well.”

    "Liking the coach" and performance

To get top performance they must be liked and respected. We are talking about females. Males, I feel only need to respect to perform.

    Coaching Girls vs Coaching Boys

Thank you for your input. I posted the question from the perspective of a coach, because that is the information I was looking for. My DD actually plays for this coach (though he would never ask for input). He stated that he didn't understand why the fastpitch team wasn't "coming together"...

    Coaching Girls vs Coaching Boys

How does a coach go from successfully coaching boys in baseball for 10 years to coaching girls fastpitch for the first time? How does the mental game change with girls? What motivates them? How do I reach 12 year old girls? Are they serious? One minute I'm talking to level headed young...

How old was your daughter when she started pitching? advise needed

My DD started pitching at 10 and started lessons at 11. She just turned 12 and loves to pitch. She has not devoloped yet, so who knows if she will ever be great. Time will tell, but there is no way I would have had her on the mound at 6. To be honest I wasn't real excited when she told me...

Any advice if the new team is not what you thought it was going to be

We live in a small community too. We chose to make the drive in (45 mins. each way) to the big city. Not because we didn't "fit in" but because we thought it was worth it in order to get better coaching and more competition.

    She is not getting better...

Great advice Amy. I found myself "coaching" from the bleachers and when I stopped my DD improved considerably. I asked her about it and she said it is very distracting to hear my voice. I have asked the other parents to kick me when I get started as it is very hard for me to keep my mouth...

    Killing the Clock

I have to agree with Planoheat and fpump. Hate stalling of any kind, hate sign stealing......I think it IS cheating and sending the wrong message to our kids. My DD is a pitcher and I think if the girls can pick up on what the pitcher is throwing because she is "showing" them, more power to...

Almost got ejected from a game this afternoon

There must be something in the air. Last weekend my daughter's coach was ejected for questioning a call on a steal home. Coach has been coaching for 15 years......this was the first time ever to be ejected.

When and how to talk to coach

I would recommend your daughter ask what she needs to do to get more play time. She obviously wants it and works hard by being there for every practice, cheering, staying positive and sticking around to help clean up, etc. I feel coming from the parent is just that. Does the coach know she...

    Revfire

Opinions on the Revfire? My daughter is a first year 12U pithcer. Pitches fastball (low 40s) and change up. Learning screwball. Is it worth the large investment at this stage in the game? She has a good stride but needs more arm speed and wrist snap and does not "feel" when she is faster...
