First team NFCA Northeast region D3

My daughter just finished her junior season and was recently awarded First team D3 Northeast region all star by the NFCA as a pitcher. She very likely would not have had the success that she had in HS and now in college without the help of everyone here on DFP beginning about ten years ago...

Chest Protector / Heart Guard Question

My daughter started wearing the evoshield a year ago at 14 and she wouldn't even consider not wearing it now which is great because I thought she would balk at first since she doesn't like extra layers typically. It's great because the pads mold to their body shape. I recommend the one with the...

    Another DP/Flex question

Thanks guys. Have coached LL teams for years and while my 13 year old has played travel for a few years her team never uses it so since I started coaching JV this year I am trying to familiarize myself with it. Seem to be a lot of scenarios where it can be taken advantage of using multiple...

    Another DP/Flex question

If the Flex has not yet batted in a game and has not been replaced on defense can that player replace "any" player in the batting order? For example, if we start a game (ASA rules) with 10 players and use a DP/Flex and get half way through the game and 3B/#3 hitter gets hurt and has to leave...

    Interference call on base runner

Runner on second and a grounder to SS who is playing deep. The runner runs in a direct path towards 3rd without slowing down and the ball passes by her closely although it doesn't touch her. The SS was about 3 feet behind the runner's path waiting to make the play and bobbled the ball because...

Video of my DD for constructive criticism

Here's another video from last December, around two years later than the above video. Still not enough leg drive here but she has added some this past season.

Video of my DD for constructive criticism

The glove arm should come up and extend towards the catcher early in the delivery. As it comes down it will act as a counter-balance to her pitching arm which is important because she needs to have balance to throw harder and with consistency. Here's a video of my DD when she was 10. She too...

9 yr old dd learning i/r with dad

My daughter who was 9 at the time learned to throw effectively with I/R over the course of about one month during the winter. We don't have a large basement or garage so she would throw from on her right knee a jugs lite flite ball to me sitting about 25 feet away on the couch. All of this...

Video of my DD for constructive criticism

While I advocate those threads as a must read for any dad of a young pitcher, I think this young lady already has a decent head start in the right direction. She's getting behind the ball a little early but not as early as most beginners I see that are that age.

Video of my DD for constructive criticism

Not bad at all for a 9 year old beginner in my book. First thing I would work on is getting her to bring her glove hand up towards the top of the circle along with the ball and then bring the glove arm down simultaneously with the downswing of the pitching arm. She doesn't bring the glove arm...

Looking for a new pitching coach for my DD

While I agree that an athletic pitcher will develop an I/R release eventually without it specifically being taught that is still no excuse for teaching non-I/R mechanics. All it does is slow down a pitcher's development. I'm guessing that 90% of the pitching coaches out there teach girls to get...

    LOL. That's the current plan.

Is Gorilla Gold Legal for USSSA? all others?

Same thing with ASA. It was specifically mentioned in the 2012 book as an approved drying agent but that line is gone from the 2013 rulebook. I asked the manufacturer and they had no knowledge of it being removed. Put a call into ASA and have received no response as of yet. The current...

    Fastball Grips and different results?

Yep, that's the grip that is producing the drop with no change to her FB mechanics. Is that typical? This is the two-seam grip she uses as opposed to the first image you posted. The ball breaks outside on a RH batter. From what I've heard from others this is the expected result.

    Fastball Grips and different results?

Going to check this out. thanks Hal. Bought a rip-it adult mask last year but being dumb I have yet to wear it because it bothers me. I vowed to start wearing it once I saw the two seam tipping the edge of my glove and shooting past my ear but alas, I'm still being stupid!

    Fastball Grips and different results?

Ken, the way you describe them yes. But I never thought of the first as being a four seam (finger on top of the C). If it is then thank you for enlightening me. =) Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing if you look at the header for this website her fingers are lying across all...
