Going to Puerto Vallarta for softball is stupid. El Chapo’s son got abducted from a restaurant there. A former Jalisco governor was shot at a beachfront resort. It is a cartel stronghold. Stuff happens every day. Even if “they wouldn’t do this to a busload of Americans”, bullets fly there. Just a gimmick to put money in someone’s pocket and it isn’t worth it.

I was thinking the same thing. WHY? Go to Puetro Vallarta? Is there a HUGE softball fan base there? Ah???...... NO. South Texas, So Cal, Florida, could not accommodate?

It was 8-9 years ago so after a couple days of violent food poisoning all recovered! Back then it was the same org that hosted a post season NCAA alternative tournamant. Kind of a NIT type deal. Both were money makers…. Can’t remember who ran it. Has-been coaches and players I think.

I usually get the side eye when I say “I can’t go to Mexico”, so here is today’s headline:

Maybe these are like college basketball where playing out of the country doesn't count toward some NCAA rule? Maximum contests maybe?

Has anyone heard anything about the severity of Jordy's injury and how they plan to treat it? I've looked and haven't found much on the old interwebs about it. Hoping it is not (too) serious.

college teams are allowed to make 1 international trip every 4 years, I believe. I don't think Mexico counts as "international" for some reason though because Washington seems to go there often.

Mike White took the Oregon Ducks to New Zealand in December one year. I think Alabama softball went to Italy not too long ago. Italy is a popular destination for college basketball, teams go during the summer months.

I know Mike White went to NZ to visit family over the holidays recently. I asked him when he's going to take Texas there and he said he'd like to do it soon but, some schools are still coming out of the Covid situations. He said it's hard to justify a trip like that and it's costs when there's still people out of work at the school. I am not sure who exactly he's referencing but you can bet your life as soon as he thinks he's got the green light, the Longhorns will be doing a tour of New Zealand.

I'll most likely know by Thursday. But, I'm not sure what info she (and the team) want shared publicly. I haven't spoken to her, and didn't want to be another a-hole texting her. I bet she has a million people asking her the same stuff.

From Feb. 10, Mylie Ketterson of SBNation/Corn Nation:

"Jordy Bahl was still absent from the pitching mound today, but we saw a glimmer of hope when she participated in all pre game activities. At this point, the coaching staff is holding her out as a preemptive measure and are waiting to get back to Lincoln to get her further checked out."

I doubt we'll hear anything more until the end of the week when they go to New Mexico.
