OK I apologize but I still don't get it. What do you think the difference is in her seeing her long toss distance increase (which as you said means her mph increased) versus visually seeing her mph increase on a radar gun?
It's her/our way of seeing velocity increase yearly. Same philosophy but just no technology involved. Coming off an injury that had her out a few months and stopping her at 53 yards is positive indicator of her velo at this time as she said she had more to give. Guns are great, but to me personally more for benchmarks, positive reinforcement early on and to validate kids on the board in recruiting. Right now she is focused on increasing her stride length, only number she is focused on now that she is pain free.

Right now she is focused on increasing her stride length, .

I would be very careful on the strategy you use to achieve this. Alot of really bad cues/drills that can really mess up a good pitchers foundation by trying to achieve something that is a result of other things by trying to make it “the thing”. Just my 2 cents and more worth :)

Yes I get that. I'm clear on that.

Aren't those the same thing? One is a number on a gun and one is a number on a tape measure.

I keep asking because I'm curious, but I guess I'm asking the wrong way. You originally said you don't radar her. You said -- "I don't. The last thing she needs to worry about is hitting a number." but then you go on to document the exact number of yards she is throwing long toss from. Which is a number.

To me its the same thing, but maybe I'm missing something. You seemed to be against using radar becasue you didn't want her concentrating on a number but then you use a number when doing long toss. But what do I know.

I have been asking what's the difference betweening gauging improvement via a number on a radar gun versus a number on a tape measure. Can you explain that to me?

Why does this bother you? Not everyone gets wrapped around what a gun says. She’s hit her bench marks as a kid, she has her accolades as a HS player and national level now. Based on long tossing she’s just doing it, no gun being propped ….just throwing. Consistency, not forced or getting out of rhythm just throwing. Again, said many times this is what we/she does. Guns are good for those that need that the self reassurance of increase just no reason to. What’s the difference in throwing 63 or 65 if you’re averaging 2K an inning? She’s got her future taken care of doing it this way, so where does having her gunned make her better? She has a state title as the #1, has a Top 9 PGF finish on her resume, playing D1 next year. Results on the field are there. Again, why does this bother you? My explanation for you is this gives consistency.

It doesn't bother me just trying to figure it out and see if there's a better way for my DD, that's all. You seemed anti radar gun with your first post and now once again seem anti gun with the bolded statement above so I wanted to know why. But it's clear you don't have a good reason by your defensiveness so I'll stop asking. You've answered my question by not answering my question.

How olds your daughter? This might be where the breakdown is. In regards to being defensive, I said many times she used the radar as benchmark in the early years. When she got to 16U played 1 year and last 3 in 18U things like radar didn’t matter. You either can pitch at a high level or you can’t. Again, radars are nice if you like numbers for validation, but what does it do? Says you can throw X speed…what does it matter if the ERA 2.00+. To me, as I explained this way gives a true velo read without really having to do a check. If you’re wanting to learn if there’s a better way, don’t question what works for others because it’s against the norm. Best of luck to your young lady, clock her everyday if that works for her. If not, get a football field and start a good long toss program.

Honestly my dd just got clocked for the first time in over a year. We switched pc. The old coach was once a month. The only thing my daughter cared about was what the gun said. She couldn’t make it out of the first inning. She was walking just as many an inning as she was striking out. New PC doesn’t get one out. Instead she focused on her mechanics telling her to trust the mechanics and speed will come. I’m sold on this now. Walks are now down to maybe 1 a game.Ks are way up as well. And guess what she’s gain 7mph in a year with this focus. 48mph to 55 as a 12u. Not going to complain.
