So i spoke with Cathi Aradi the recruiting consultant/coach who initially told me of the vacancy. She recommended DD put together a hard copy packet with a letter, Resume and video to send to the new coach when they are hired. Following up with electronic copy of the same stuff a week later.
So the first step is getting on the new coaches radar. As well as getting the NCAA “paperwork” completed.
Because DD is recovering from her first TOS surgery now and will be having the other side done 6/12, she wont be in shape to try out in the fall. This puts her in an unusual situation. So we are both hoping that they will be able to keep a spot on the bench open for her while she trains with the team in the off season, with the intent of being game ready in January.
I have spoken with both the AD and the Head Trainer to inquire about getting onto a team where they dont have a coach yet and theres a pre-existing condition, but they were both very encouraging. I got a very favorable impression from them. The trainer gave me the name of the softball trainer who will be working with her- like its a done deal. made it sound Like making the team was either assumed or not required to work with the softball team athletic trainer. The AD immediately sent DDs contact info to the trainer and NCAA compliance officer, and contacted the NCAA.
So my questions:
1- If her video (and stats) is out of date (january 2016) would it be better to omit that?
2- Would a letter of recommendation be a good idea? I was thinking of something maybe addressing intangibles rather than listing awards and stats. She trains at a place which is fairly well known in th softball community in New England, her coach there has overseen her training for 4 years and being a former P5 DI coach, i think she would know what a coach would want to hear.
3- even though she cant pitch yet, (and at 5’-2”, she may not wind up pitching in college) she is still teaching pitching to younger players currently in both private lessons and ongoing clinics. She has taught herself to pitch left-handed so she can demonstrate somewhat. She is very good at teaching pitching so i didnt know if some short video of that might be of any interest when introducing a player to a coach?
4- any advice is welcome!
Thanks!
