So i spoke with Cathi Aradi the recruiting consultant/coach who initially told me of the vacancy. She recommended DD put together a hard copy packet with a letter, Resume and video to send to the new coach when they are hired. Following up with electronic copy of the same stuff a week later.

So the first step is getting on the new coaches radar. As well as getting the NCAA “paperwork” completed.

Because DD is recovering from her first TOS surgery now and will be having the other side done 6/12, she wont be in shape to try out in the fall. This puts her in an unusual situation. So we are both hoping that they will be able to keep a spot on the bench open for her while she trains with the team in the off season, with the intent of being game ready in January.

I have spoken with both the AD and the Head Trainer to inquire about getting onto a team where they dont have a coach yet and theres a pre-existing condition, but they were both very encouraging. I got a very favorable impression from them. The trainer gave me the name of the softball trainer who will be working with her- like its a done deal. made it sound Like making the team was either assumed or not required to work with the softball team athletic trainer. The AD immediately sent DDs contact info to the trainer and NCAA compliance officer, and contacted the NCAA.

So my questions:

1- If her video (and stats) is out of date (january 2016) would it be better to omit that?

2- Would a letter of recommendation be a good idea? I was thinking of something maybe addressing intangibles rather than listing awards and stats. She trains at a place which is fairly well known in th softball community in New England, her coach there has overseen her training for 4 years and being a former P5 DI coach, i think she would know what a coach would want to hear.

3- even though she cant pitch yet, (and at 5’-2”, she may not wind up pitching in college) she is still teaching pitching to younger players currently in both private lessons and ongoing clinics. She has taught herself to pitch left-handed so she can demonstrate somewhat. She is very good at teaching pitching so i didnt know if some short video of that might be of any interest when introducing a player to a coach?

4- any advice is welcome!

Thanks!

I'm far from being an expert, but I agree with your approach of sending what you have. I like the idea of showing the intangibles of her being a hard worker, resilient, and a team player. If she's already got her acceptance to the school and going there no matter happens with softball, all she can do is keep showing her dedication to getting healthy and helping the team in any way she can in the meantime.

Since we're also in NE region, I'm interested to see what school you're referring to. (PM if don't want to post it). Bryant is the only one I know of so far that will have a coaching change in 2018.

IMO, all you have listed can't hurt and will cover all of the bases. Where BB went to college had a trainer assigned to softball and so, BB worked out with him overseeing her workouts all summer. (After her freshman year and through her senior year.) I have found out that these trainers really like the niche that they are assigned and develop personal ties with the athletes and take stock in their success. I know more than once, BB came home and said that "Josh" kicked her butt that day." I think that it is important that your dd have a face to face with the new coaching staff as soon as they get in place. I think it will help them to put a face to a name. That can be done without being intrusive and can help your dd stand out.

I checked in with the AD and the head Trainer. They told me they have a lot of experience with TOS (they usually find it happens with Swimmers and baseball players) they were very encouraging, liked the fact that she has already started with the NCAA stuff. CB like you said, they told me who the softball trainer is and that she will be managing DDs rehab. She will direct the coach as to what DD can and cannot be expected to do. They were talking about it like shes already on the team.

#7’s- Bryant was one of the schools she was looking at and she LOVED the coach! But as time went on, it wasnt one of the schools that she grew to like better. Still ok, but no t as great as some of the others. Also, she was thinking DI level commitment was maybe more than she should take on. Roger Williams was that way too. We loved the campus and the coach and knew a couple players on the team, but the girl who gave us a tour of the campus really made the place seem mundane.no excitement.
