Fair enough. I can live with that. I should have chose better wording. As for the coach, I talked with her in a mature matter of fact way with a smile on my face. She agreed that it wasn't the smartest move and that she is new to coaching and made a mistake. We have all learned from this. Can...- stickemup

I have wrestled with this idea many times and I am on the fence about it. Just to spin it a little bit. I know many kids/people that have never had a hand laid on them in their life that are outstanding individuals. I also know people that were rotten people as kids. Young and Dumb has been used all along in defense of this coach's actions. Not as a means to berate her or make light of somebody's concerns about safety. "Suck it up" has no other meaning other than to say you are whining about nothing. If we substitute 'Inexperienced' for 'Dumb' would it still...- stickemup

Let's take the possibility of ignorance out of the equation. When the coach told my kid to run, my daughter started to protest with the fact that she had no shoes on. The coach's response was "that's not my fault". She knew what she was doing.- stickemup

I assure you that as bizarre as the story is. It is the whole story. Why do people automatically assume that a coach is incapable of making a mistake? I want people to understand that I do not interfere with a coach with regards to methods unless it is a safety issue. To give an example, this same coach has a policy that if an infielder makes an error during practice they are told to "take a hike". At which time the fielder is expected to...- stickemup

Sorry, "Young and Dumb" is really not intended to be a derogatory statement in the sense that you took it. More of a reference to lack of experience. She is not a dumb person per say. One major flaw in the barefoot running shoe example. Those are still shoes and they do protect your foot from hazards. She could have made my kid run 'til the cows came home... If she would have had shoes on.- stickemup

Amen with regards to holding kids to standards higher than we would set upon ourselves. I let this coach have her way in terms of what she does on the field. She will die by her own sword with regard to her coaching ability. When I say she is young and dumb and on a power trip it is true. But...- stickemup

I hear you and agree with what you are saying in most regards. I basically have no problem with the coach deciding to get on her about not being prepared. We were none too happy about having to drive the shoes back over there and she would have been lectured about it after practice. However...- stickemup
