In our area, it's more like travel ball, ie. warm up infield in foul territory. There is one school that does the team warmup on the whole field for about 3 minutes before the game starts.
I've been watching college softball on TV the last few years but it seems like there has been a lot of 6-4-3, 4-6-3, and 1-6-3 DPs this year. Even my daughter's D3 team had a 6-4-3 DP yesterday.
I know of a girl who committed to OU and then was asked by OU to quit her current travel team and join Batbuster Stith's team. The girl was from NorCal. This sort of stuff seems to happen a lot.
Huntington Beach where PGF Nationals will be will be in the 70's. Yes, driving an hour to Perris will be in the 100's. Not all SoCal regions are the same.
We didn't do much live pitching in 10U or 12U. I think it was because the pitchers were not accurate enough at this age to make it worthwhile. We did mostly soft toss and machine. It wasn't until 14U we did a lot of live pitching, mainly intra squad scrimmages which made it competitive. In 18U...
And they are giving 3 berths for 7 teams. What's even worst is the 18U division only has 5 teams and they are still giving 3 berths. In this division, 2 of the teams only have to win one game to get a berth.
Some of the announcers aren't even at the ball park, they are announcing the game remotely. Unless they get a video stream that has a different angle than what the viewers are seeing, I think they are winging it.
DD was in an organization that was similar. For practices, parents were only allowed to sit beyond the outfield fences. They were not allowed to sit in the bleacher seats in the infield.
Somewhere in the middle of the spectrum you have a similar gigantic high school with a deep pool of talent but the HC is an employee of the school (district rules). Doesn't know softball, doesn't know how to run a practice. Talent is wasted during the season.
