10U ball - Your catcher's primary job is to receive the ball from the pitcher. You might see a few pop ups or a few steels missed but the player behind the plate should be able to consitently receive the pitch. At 10U level, it does seem that if the catcher catches each pitch steeling from 1st...
One issue I do have with what is being shown in the video is the step behind. I don't know of any sport where you would cross your feet to accomplish movement.
Here is a sample of the step that should take place:
Montana Fastpitch Softball - (Polson, MT) - powered by LeagueLineup.com
Used the ThrowMax with my player and it really helped. I would suggest doing this during the off season though. Remember we are working with muscle memory and you have to "break it" first. Most players have been throwing this way for a long time and you can't expect to fix it in a week during...
1. The catcher should be in the front of the plate in a good athletic position (you'll be amazed how many catchers I see standing waiting for the ball with their hands on their hips) ready to receive the ball.
2. As a general rule for my catchers, I have them stand about 2 feet in front of...
Speed can be taught!
Running is another huge thing to look at through out the year and it can be applied to other sports.
Pumping her arms eye to thigh.
Knees pumping high
Running on the balls/toes and not landing heal to toe.
All of this helps in lateral and forward/backword movement to field...
I'm not an experting in hitting, but was wondering other's thoughts.
Our 12U TB Team has access to batting cages using Jugs pitching machines. I notice the head TB coach had the machines on 50. I thought that might be a little fast so I asked him if we knew hard fast the average 12U pitcher...
My DD has been playing Travel Ball for 4 seasons now. For 2 of those years I was a spectator and 1 year as a coach. This year I'm a spectator again and asked DD what did you like about having me coach last year. She said, 'Dad I didn't hear you yelling like a mad man'. Wow, that kind of hit...

This is the sort of call that drives folks nuts! As SoCalDad stated the rule in his message: According to ASA 4.J A strike is called by the umpire: When a legally pitched ball hits the batter while the ball is in the strike zone. It makes absolutely no difference if she was pulling back or...

I'm assuming this is travel ball?
As a volunteer coach and father, I would be pretty bent out of shape. As a head coach, I always had a practice plan to hand out to coaches and parents who were assisting. While the ladies were performing their warm ups, I would gather up everyone who is...
We were at a Travel Ball Tournament this weekend. We have a bases load situation and a play was made at home. Their catcher caught the ball standing in the middle of the plate and our runner slid into home knocking the catcher down. It was like the catcher and to make a quick reaction. The...
