I wondered if anyone was familiar with the BATS testing by Dr. Frank Spaniol and had opinions on its accuracy? For those who aren't familiar here's a link for the norms that he came up with for high school and NCAA softball players http://ftp.nfca.org/bats/batsnorms.pdf
The norms for the 20yd...
We've had some correspondence with coaches in the last week and one coach asked for her high school stats. The others did not. I know just about every questionnaire that she has filled out has asked for high school stats. The season ended before she expected with a loss in regional playoffs...
I would simplify things and base your decision on what is best for your daughter. As others have suggested that may mean only coaching your daughter at home and letting her play for someone else.
Not sure if that's sarcasm or not but I'm from Virginia. Every kid on the field is a pretty good travel ball player and I think our team is considered to be one of the better ones around here.
Daughter's last regular season game of the season - district title up for grabs. We're in the field bottom of the third no score. One out runners on second and third, clean up up. Batter bunts and third charges hard and throws home. Runner would have been out by two steps so she turns back...
Amen. I believe that this year round travel ball philosophy is unhealthy for a vast majority of kids - especially when you're talking about sports that are as one side dominant as softball and baseball.
She wants to play as long as possible. Any particular model numbers for these makes?
Right now she just has each finger in the corresponding finger of the glove. We've tried to get her to go with the technique you described before but she didn't like it. We might try again though.
Thanks...
I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on an outfield glove for my 17yo daughter. Her current glove is a 13" worn out wallet. She's 5'6" and wears an adult small/youth large batting glove. She strength trains and has pretty strong hands. Thanks.
When developing athletes you need to "cook 'em slow". Check out Josef Drabek's book on sports training for children. He cites several studies out of Europe that found that early sport specialization results in children who attain their peak of sport mastery earlier than their multi sport...
I think that for my daughter her memories about high school softball will contain more "in game" moments than her memories of showcase softball. She loves travel ball as well and I might have a different opinion if she made it to the quarterfinals in a national championship. There are bragging...
I was in the process of building a hitting stand for my daughter to practice her "9 by's" drill. The dry swing to contact point for inside, middle, outside, low, middle, up drill. The stand would have balls suspended at each contact point. I was thinking that the angle of contact points from...
