If you notice the young ladys body is way in front of the hands/bat. She has bat drag.
Doing the progression above will teach her to pivot the bat around her hands and not around her body. Using the hands properly is a key component to alleviating bat drag and having an adjustable swing. It’s a big fundamental that shouldn’t be ignored. As some others have said she needs to find the right pivot point for the bat to pivot around. The above drill is for that very thing.

Keeping the bat head up and having a feeling of swinging down will help with finding the right pivot and release point. Basically you can’t ‘cheat’. But you
must have the goal of a low line drive when practicing this mechanic. Pivoting and releasing the barrel will be a no teach if this drill can be mastered.

Don’t under estimate the hands. They control the swing.

Can you do me a favor ... review the link you provided and talk us through the usage of the hands during the first of the two drills that was about the hands. Exactly how is he using his hands during that first drill?

The body load. The backside and core. That is the progression I use. Hands then load.

When you write 'backside' ... do you mean the backside of the torso, as in one's back? Do you mean the back half in terms of the portion of the body towards the catcher?

After you describe the location being loaded ... share with me how you go about loading it?

Would appreciate your description of what you are doing with the hands during the first drill you suggest.

WW, if you are '3swing' then congrats! Your daughter has a decent stroke.

While waiting for you to supply the requested information, I'll attempt to share my thoughts on 'the load'.

For me, the basic loading sequence begins with the loading of the rear hip & glute (as you weight your rear leg) … and then the core. Describing the loading of the core can be a bit difficult … but I’ll give it a try from a ‘feel’ perspective. The feel of loading the core can be thought of as a coordinated effort to lift the front leg … where that coordination is a combination of the front hip lifting the front leg, and the lead flank (between the ribs and hip) and core lifting the front hip (which was in the process of lifting the lead leg). While the photo below is of a substantial leg lift, there need not be such a visible leg lift. A similar load can be performed with a minor front leg lift and even with a no-stride approach.

The image above is not meant to be an advertisement for Myer’s book … I have not viewed his book … I like the photo however, as it has me imagining a hitter becoming loaded with uninvolved shoulders and hands.

How long do you stay loaded.. I don't mean time wise, but at which stage of the swing do you unload? Personally for my DD and I, a cue that helps her is to stay loaded until heel plant. I believe this creates the necessary stretch from hands/backside - through her core - to her frontside, utilizing the big muscles. It also makes her swing more dynamic. For example in case she get's fooled on a change up, she's able to resist with her backside (stay back, see other thread) and still put a good swing on it.

All drills are not for all hitters. I posted this one because I thought it might be helpful with the issues of this particular young player - introducing a feeling for powering the swing with the body, while reducing the involvement of the arms. Keeping in mind the age of the player, we need to think of working with large building blocks that will help form a foundation for the future. That said, I'm no expert. If someone has a better approach, please share it.

IMO that drill is awesome.

Thanks for posting Eric. It really helps dumb things down in a practical sense and points out traps along the way. I love the way he starts from a lead arm parallel position.. nice isolation, takes a lot of the fail points out of the equation IMO

The front heel becomes planted as a result of what you refer to as an unload. It is the unloading that is timed to hit.
