I sit in center field behind a fence. I do this on purpose because my voice carries. We were facing our first loss, the score was 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh. There was a pop fly to center field, the girl caught the ball threw it in, first out.
While the ball was in the air I was yelling "I got it I got it I got it". I sat down and thought one out. Then I saw a parent from the visiting team run back to his seat from the dugout yelling "thats rediculous". Then he pointed out to me and said "that guy with the blue shirt"
THE GAME STOPPED. IT WAS QUIET>
The visiting coach went out to the umpire, the umpire asked for the game director. I saw all this happening and thougt you got to be kidding me. People sitting aroud me asked me what had I said. Well the director came out and before he got to me i told him that I was not leaving. He told me that they said I was being loud. The visiting coaches hadn't noticed a thing and were only going by this parents comment. I was in no way yelling at a girl and the next play was about to begin when this happened.
I now know what I did was wrong from an ethical standpoint, however my yelling was not directed at anyone and the play was made in perfection.
Well I told the director that I was not leaving because it was the parents complaint and not the coaches. The director just wanted me to move over towards the edge of the field but I still refused.
The director started walking back to the edge of the field.
Play resumed. Our number 2 hitter hit a bloop single that was misplayed, we scored two runs and the game was over. We won 4-3.
I am not proud of anything but I guess I was caught up in the emotion of the game and we often do yell I got it I got it almost out of habit realizing how could that prevent a person from fielding a ball.
I would like your thoughts and is this means for ejection for a fan. And is there such a rule that is written down.
Unfortunately I thought later that this parent complaining stopped the game and took their pitcher out of her groove. She was locked on. Then all this happened, they lost and didn't qualify for district playoffs.
