the 2 different patterns are a little easier to see in golf, but WAY easier to feel there and now VERY well described by Hardy, PLANE TRUTH FOR GOLFERS.

either you swing around, with active shoulder turn turning the bat/club, OR you swing down, synching up and down arm swing with back and forth turn of body, creating stretch and fire by the bat swinging/club swinging in one more downward plane while the hips turn the body more levelly.

the mlb pattern is a variation of this second type pattern where the upper body plane creates enough resistance the level turning hips that trajectory can be controlled and adjusted late.

2 ENTIRELY different motions, but both using the same underlying principles.

that would be hardy who says there are 2 different incompatible swing patterns that should not be mixed if you want a consistent repeatable swing:

1- swing around/1 plane

2- swing down/2 plane

Either can work in golf.

both are seen in baseball, but only the swing down variety is successful in MLB.

It seems Hardy and I disagree with you on that last sentence as Scott has pointed out many times.

Hitting Software

I don't have the time/energy to read this entire thread so if I repeat, excuse me.
I agree with Mark H.'s assesment of Right View Pro. Great software----actually anything that forces viewing video frame by frame is useful. Don't really think the drills are very good on RVP. The baseball swings are probably better than the female swings they show----the one neat thing that is very evident is that elite softball swings and baseball swings are mechanically very similar. Leah Amico Obrien and Chipper Jones could be twins.
Not certain I sign up for everything Candrea and Enquist say in the instructional video. They tend to over emphasize the "Negative Move" and "Extension Through The Ball". I think their explainations are easily misinterpreted.
I have recently purchased some hitting drill DVD's by Pat Murphy (Alabama Softball Coach). I think he may have a better "grip" on the swing than Candrea and he has a lot more relavent drills.
I also applaud Don Slaught for convincing Candrea and Enquist that softball players should swing on plane like baseball players--------I'm wondering if I can get a refund on my old Candrea tapes showing how to chop at a riseball.

LOL I'm thinking probably no. I don't think I'll be getting anything back on my Dot tape either showing her doing, in slow motion, something different than she is saying to do. :)

Where did you purchase the Pat Murphy hitting DVDs? I tried to Google them, but I haven't had any luck. Could you give me a link or an address? Thanks!
